Hi Latoja , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
MeraMi looks Started with an idea between two best friends working at a local salon looking for more! Amber and I (latoja) decided to look for potential locations for a new and fresh vibe. We found a location with in a month and signed the lease in March of 2020! And then our world was turned upside down! We were shut down until indefinitely. It was so incredibly nerve racking but also the best time to remodel and bring the new salon to life. We both have incredible husbands that helped us remodel the entire salon. Our salon started out combining two suites (one was a salon) with carpet and ugly walls! All while not taking a single loan out to do it! We had time to transform it into what we called home for the last 5 years. Now, starting March 1st, 2025, We are moving to Baxter to be closer to the hustle and bustle. Wanting to get back into that walk in vibe. Ironically, where Amber and I met! The old Fantastic sams in Baxter. Take about full circle! We love our team now and could not be where we are today without them as well. We both are strong willed women wanting to make a salon a second home to us, our co-workers and our clients!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the height of covid, id say it went as smooth as it could go. Learning the rules and regulations of the government did pose some obstacles. Not knowing if we were able to fill our books was a bit scary for a while.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our salon is known for having a variety of specialists. Amber Johnson specializes in Sewn-in weft extensions and customizing colors with extensions. I specialize in custom blonding, creative colors, Permanent makeup and fine line tattoos. Our other stylists Amber Moren is always slaying the tinsel! Alayna Burmeister is always up with the latest trends and Hannah is a Master at Mens cuts. However, we provide other haircare services along with our mastering capabilities.

Amber Johnson not only does hair but she is a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Long term goal is to be an RN to provide an added level as an Injection RN to our business! I am in my second year of Business school to obtain my Bachelors in Accounting. I want to be able to help start-up small businesses in the hair industry and one day I want to be behind the chair less and focus on the other side of hair! Teaching and building businesses for the future generation.
