Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky McNattin
Hi Becky, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In August of 2022, Becky McNattin, owner of Becoming Together Therapy and Wellness, decided to start a new kind of practice. A practice passionate about, and dedicated to, expanding the paradigm of mental health care. Since then, Becoming Together Therapy and Wellness has been committed to offering services that embrace our humanness, encourage personal exploration and foster emotional expression. Our therapists are trained in traditional talk therapy methods, as well as experiential strategies including dance and movement, yoga, writing, imagery, nature, play, and music. Together, we work as a collective to continuously ideate and discover creative ways to meet the unique needs of individuals, families, and communities on their healing journey.
And our passion has been contagious! People who work with Becoming Together Therapy and Wellness in any capacity can feel it. It’s an experience unlike anything else currently out there. It’s unique, liberating, and most importantly, healing. Becoming Together started with nothing more than a vision, and in two short years it has grown from Becky alone, to a collective of 13 team members. After just one year, we doubled our office space and realized we needed a room specifically designed for expressive therapies. Our therapists have since developed therapeutic programming that provides an array of offerings including yoga, poetry groups, and community connection opportunities.
At Becoming Together Therapy and Wellness, every person is valued deeply and innately To further champion our values, our practice takes an active social justice stance in community involvement. We promise to continue nurturing a space where people can feel safe, heard, and valued as a whole person.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a bumpy road, and at times can feel like off-roading! Mental health care is an ever-changing field, with demand growing exponentially faster than resources available. . Developing our identity and strategy has required a true team effort, as we have navigated roadblocks in reimbursement, logistics, and marketing. It has truly been a process of finding the right people who believe in the vision of the business and can help us get there.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Becoming Together Therapy and Wellness?
We are an outpatient mental health care practice servicing the Twin Cities metro, located in Eden Prairie, MN.We are a small, but quickly growing, private practice offering care to individuals, families, and couples of all ages. We accept a variety of insurance plans and are credentialed with major providers to maximize the amount of clients we can serve. At Becoming Together, we offer traditional talk therapy, as well as experiential modalities such as music, dance, movement, poetry, writing, nature, imagery, and creative expression. We believe therapy does not have to be restricted by the limitations of talking. Here, we define therapy differently..
In addition to our client work, we value the importance of community involvement and connection, demonstrated by our participation in many different arenas as sponsors and volunteers. In an ongoing effort to reach larger audiences with impactful mental health messages, we have recently taken to the radio!. Our show, “Feels Out Loud,” airs weekly on Sundays on AM 950 Feels Out Loud is also available as a podcast on our website and on Spotify for listening at any time! On our show, we aim to help communities engage in dialogue with one another about mental health and authentic connection.
Our mission is to honor and nurture emotional healing, expression and mental wellness for all people. We believe that mental wellness happens in the context of relationships, and we envision a holistic and expansive paradigm of mental wellness.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The mental health sector of healthcare is changing rapidly and there are many unknowns about the future. Funding, reimbursement, coverage for mental health care, and access to services are all arenas that impact what we do. Unfortunately, we are also now a more anxious and depressed society than we were just 10 years ago.
People are now looking for, and needing, something different from mental healthcare. As an industry, we need to respond to this in creative and accessible ways, helping people to integrate strategies into their daily lives to support ongoing mental wellness in times of uncertainty.
