Today we’d like to introduce you to Just Jimi
Hi JUST, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I want to say I got started doing music around 2017, I started off recording at Dear Mama Studios. Looking back or should I say listening back to that era of my music I want to say it was more ambitious than it was quality. I think I did a great job saying the things I wanted to say, but I had no idea on how to approach the recording process. There are more than a coupke people who still enjoy my early Blkheart projects, more power to them but me not so much. I think how I got to where I am though is just appreciating that there is growth in the process of whatever you’re pursuing. And a lot of times people that support you don’t see all the growth because you know that’s happening behind the scenes, in real time. And the internet is not a direct reflection of real time. I have absolutely no idea how much time I’ve dedicated to studio time whether it was for my own music or collaborative efforts but a lot of that music hasn’t even seen a release. I’m sure majority of it won’t, but it’s like I’m working towards being able to make sure I have a solid mental and creative foundation first & foremost, and I think that’s just always been my focus and it’s how I’ve gotten to where I’m at musically.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. Again it goes back to what’s happening in life, in real time. Which a lot of times the music, music videos, shows etc are never a indicator that “Hey things aren’t a smooth road” but I’d say the biggest challenge for me is consistency, I’m consistent in my recording process. But roll outs, I struggle with those just because of the way my life is set up. The internet is not a real place. But a lot of times my focus is rooted in the real issues I have in my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a recording artist. I’m not necessarily sure what I specialize in you know? I think I’m very deliberate in challenging myself with how I approach music. Or the songs I make. I’m known for songs like “Cold Heart”, “Mindfield”, “Make Sure”, “Beam Me Up”, “Master Peace” & “Evil II” which to me all those songs are all different. None like the one before it. And that’s something I’m most proud of, not allowing myself to be boxed in when it comes to the type of music I’ll make. That’s always felt super limiting to who I am. So I’d say that’s what sets me apart from others, I don’t think I’ve hit the ceiling on my creativity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
For the most part I think luck has played into all of it. Or just divine intervention more than anything, my life story is just a crazy one. A lot of times I look back on it and just don’t even know how I ended up here with my mind & purpose still very much intact. You can’t say that for a lot of people and maybe it’s because luck or divine intervention played a role in their lives, or maybe it did but they just didn’t see it. It’s woven all through my life.
