Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Lee
Hi Meghan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Meghan, the owner of Rowan Beauty Company, which I created in 2021 out of a deep passion for helping people feel beautiful and confident. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2015, but my love for beauty and artistry started long before that!
When I opened our studio, my vision was to create more than just a beauty space—I wanted a warm, welcoming environment where clients feel supported and celebrated. We offer brow, lash, and waxing services in-studio, as well as on-location hair and makeup for weddings and special events. Whether it’s a bride on her wedding day or someone looking for effortless beauty in their everyday life, our approach is always the same: professional, personalized, and designed to enhance natural beauty.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge along the way has led me to where I am now. I fell in love with helping others feel beautiful long before cosmetology school, and when I finally started, I knew I had found my place. But after graduating, I struggled to find my footing in the industry. I felt lost, unsure of my direction, and eventually stepped away to try other careers. No matter what I did, though, my heart wasn’t in it—I felt unfulfilled and unhappy.
In 2020, I went through a period of transformation and knew it was time for a change. With my mom’s encouragement, I went back to school to expand my skills in lash extensions and brow services. Once I finished, I spent months creating a business plan, practicing my craft, and tackling all the behind-the-scenes work of setting up a business. I was optimistic—maybe a little too optimistic—thinking I’d have a full schedule in no time. The reality was far different. There were weeks without a single client, and I had to keep a part-time job just to make ends meet.
Building a clientele takes time, but I kept going. Eventually, I started getting requests for bridal hair and makeup, and something just clicked. I fell in love with all things bridal—there’s something so special about being part of someone’s happiest day. It was the best decision I could have made. Now, as we enter our fourth bridal season, I can truly say I love what I do. The road here wasn’t easy, and there were plenty of discouraging moments, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Every struggle led me to a career that brings me joy every single day.

We also provide on-location bridal hair and makeup, which has become a huge passion of mine. There’s something so special about being part of a wedding day, and we take pride in creating looks that enhance natural beauty while lasting from the first look to the last dance.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are from growing up in South St. Paul—my neighborhood was the best! I spent so much time outside with the other kids in the area (shoutout to Amy, Nick, and Kevin!) playing hide-and-seek, kickball in the front yard, and endless rounds of kick the can—though in our version, we used a giant tree instead of a can. It was the kind of childhood where you only went inside when the streetlights came on, and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!
