Inspiring Conversations with Dj Low of Gold Culture Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Low

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as a DJ began in 2010 when I was a sophomore at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. I started as a radio DJ for the university’s station, KAUG, where I interviewed local artists like Metasota, Bobby Raps, and Sean Anonymous shining a spotlight on Minnesota’s music scene. One of my most memorable interviews was with Prof and Macklemore—both at the same time—after they performed a show for the university.

Being a university DJ opened doors for me. What started with DJing house parties quickly led to club gigs and concert opportunities. My first major concert was opening for Eve, Lizzo, and Sophia Eris, and from there, I went on to open for artists like DMX, The Game, 50 Cent, Freddie Gibbs, Maxo Kream, and many others. One of the greatest honors of my career came when I was asked to DJ at First Avenue the day after Prince passed, for the venue’s tribute dance party. To this day, I don’t know who turned down that 1:30–3:30 AM slot, but I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to help Minneapolis mourn and celebrate a legend.

During this time, I was introduced to the world of wedding DJing. It started with close friends from college, but as word spread, friends began referring me to others who were getting married. Over time, I developed a deep understanding of how to craft a seamless wedding experience, from the timeline to the energy on the dance floor.

In 2018, I took a leap and moved to California to chase my dream of DJing in a new state. That’s where I truly fell in love with wedding DJing. I had the privilege of working with J&M Entertainment, a prestigious and highly professional event company, where I learned the importance of the small details. I realized that many couples aren’t always given a clear vision or guidance by vendors, yet those little moments—the ones that might seem minor—are what make a wedding truly unforgettable.

In June 2020, I returned to Minneapolis to reconnect with my roots and contribute to the local music scene. This was when Gold Culture Entertainment really started to take off in both the wedding industry and the broader music space. During 2021 I partnered with Waterwave TV, an incredible group dedicated to supporting Minnesota’s music, art, and fashion communities. Even started a podcast series on my youtube and Instagram called DJLOW SHOW, highlighting new and upcoming artists from all over the world. Since then, my focus has been on booking weddings and the music scene , and I haven’t looked back.

What I love most about wedding DJing is helping couples plan their perfect day, from the initial rough draft of their timeline to seeing it come to life with every detail in place. I get to be part of moments that couples will cherish forever—whether it’s a beautifully orchestrated ceremony, a grand entrance leading into a fun photo run at each table before dinner, or a dance floor that ends with guests singing their hearts out in a circle.

Being a DJ is so much more than just playing music. It’s about understanding a clients vision, curating the right energy for each moment of the day, and bringing an extra touch of magic to make their wedding or event a lasting core memory. That’s what I strive to do every time I step behind the decks, and grab the microphone.

Blessings on blessings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road is relative—but did I always reach my destination safely? Absolutely! My career is about showing up to people’s events and celebrate with them. It’s the best job in the world!!

This journey has taught me a lot about myself and others—how to navigate around gatekeepers, recognize that not everyone you want to bring to the top with you has your best interests at heart, and how to lead people through stressful and unpredictable moments to create successful outcomes.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is letting go of my own ego and pride. As a DJ, you’re hired to serve the client and their guests first. It’s not about what I want to hear—it’s about creating the right vibe for them. That doesn’t mean I don’t bring my expertise into the mix. Being an open-format DJ allows me to experiment, blend genres, and test new sounds, all while keeping the dance floor alive. Why stick to the obvious when you can take the crowd on a journey they didn’t expect but will never forget?

The struggles have shaped me, but the ability to adapt, read a room, and push creative boundaries is what makes this road worth traveling.

We’ve been impressed with Gold Culture Entertainment, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Gold Culture Entertainment is more than just me as a DJ—it’s a resource. As a bilingual DJ fluent in Spanish, I specialize in creating unforgettable experiences for diverse audiences, whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or private celebration. My vision has always been to build a one-stop shop for clients, making event planning seamless and stress-free.

Of course, I provide DJ services, but my role doesn’t stop there. If I’m unavailable, already booked, or if my pricing exceeds a client’s budget, I can connect them with other skilled DJs who match their needs. But beyond just music, I ask my clients:
• Do you have a photographer?
• Are you looking for a videographer?
• Do you want a photo booth?
• How about catering or late-night snacks?
• Do you need security? Floral decorations?

I guide my clients through the entire event planning process, offering trusted vendor recommendations to reduce stress and simplify decision-making. My goal is that as soon as someone decides to host an event or wedding, they contact me right away so I can help them navigate the details efficiently and seamlessly.

What Sets Gold Culture Entertainment Apart?

What makes Gold Culture Entertainment different is the hands-on approach. I don’t just show up and play music—I listen, plan, and help bring a vision to life. Whether a couple just got engaged and is overwhelmed with where to start, or a company is planning a large event and needs a smooth execution, I step in as a trusted guide.

A dream example would be a couple reaching out the week after getting engaged. I take the time to give them options, ask questions that get their minds and gears turning, and help them start shaping their vision—even if we know their wedding is a year or two away. We discuss details like:
• Do you want a big or small wedding?
• Would you prefer a local venue, destination wedding, or something unique like a resort or Airbnb?
• What vendors do you need? Instead of them spending hours researching, I provide a curated list of professionals—from photographers to makeup artists—who I personally trust.

Being bilingual allows me to seamlessly communicate with diverse clients and guests, ensuring that cultural traditions, music preferences, and event details are executed exactly as envisioned.

Creating Unique & Luxurious Experiences

At the core of Gold Culture Entertainment is the belief that events should be stress-free, unique, and unforgettable. I take pride in creating luxurious, high-energy experiences that leave lasting memories.

So, whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a private celebration—my job is to bring your vision to life while making the process smooth, fun, and easy.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Being a DJ is a risk in itself. It’s not a “traditional” career path, and there’s no set blueprint for success. Every aspect of this profession involves risk—from putting yourself out there in front of a crowd full of strangers to curating a night’s music in real-time, talking on the microphone and never knowing exactly how people will respond.

One of the biggest risks I took was choosing to pursue DJing as a full-time career. There’s no guaranteed paycheck or annual salary , no benefits package, and no set path to follow. It meant trusting myself, my skills, and my ability to build something from the ground up. It required stepping out of my comfort zone, networking, and constantly adapting to different audiences, venues, and industries—whether in clubs, concerts, or weddings.

A major risk was moving to California in 2018 to expand my career in a new state. I had already built a name for myself in Minnesota , but I wanted to grow, learn, and challenge myself in a different environment. That move taught me a lot—not just about DJing but about business, relationships, and what it truly takes to succeed in this industry. It wasn’t easy, but it shaped me into the DJ and entrepreneur I am today.

I believe the key to risk-taking is understanding that fear and uncertainty are part of growth. Risks don’t always pay off immediately, and sometimes they don’t work out at planned. But every risk I’ve taken—whether it was performing in front of my first massive crowd, transitioning into weddings, throwing residential dance parties at First Avenue or investing in my own business—it all has led to new opportunities, people, skills, and experiences that have pushed me forward.

To me, risk isn’t about being reckless—it’s about being willing to step into the unknown with confidence, trusting that even if things don’t go as planned, I’ll figure it out and keep moving forward.
