Today we’d like to introduce you to Herhaus
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The vision for HerHaus was born out of the shared experiences of three women from vastly
different backgrounds, each seeking a space where Black women could simply exist, connect,
and thrive.
●
Aryn, born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, found herself in the unfamiliar landscape
of the Midwest when she moved to Minneapolis to begin her corporate career. Far from
the cultural comforts of home, she craved a space where she could connect with other
Black women who understood the unique challenges of navigating new environments.
●
Cari, a Minneapolis native, returned to her hometown after living for several years in
Washington, D.C. Despite being back in familiar surroundings, Cari felt the need for a
new community—one where she could meet people outside of her childhood circle and
engage in intentional, empowering conversations with like-minded women.
●
Adia, originally from the beautiful island of Jamaica, is a first-generation immigrant who
moved to Minneapolis, the farthest from home of the trio. With few opportunities to visit
her family in Jamaica, Adia longed for a sense of belonging and a community that could
provide safety, connection, and support.
Together, Aryn, Cari, and Adia co-founded HerHaus, driven by the desire to create the space
they had each been missing—an inclusive, welcoming environment where Black women could
come together, be themselves unapologetically, and build meaningful relationships. Their
combined vision has made HerHaus an environment for women to thrive, both personally and
communally.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business comes with its challenges, especially when finances and personal relationships are involved. Managing costs and ensuring profitability has proven to be difficult, particularly in the early stages. Balancing affordability for customers while covering expenses has required careful planning and financial discipline. At the same time, working with friends/business partners adds another layer of complexity, the balancing act of prioritizing friendship over business is something that we are actively working through.
We’ve been impressed with HerHaus , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
HerHaus is redefining what it means to create spaces for Black women. It offers a haven where women can escape the demands of everyday life and immerse themselves in genuine connections. Through thoughtfully curated experiences, HerHaus encourages Black women to embrace their individuality, foster deep, meaningful relationships, and engage in open, empowering conversations. It’s more than just a space—HerHaus is a celebration of identity, resilience, and community, providing the comfort and confidence to be unapologetically oneself.
Our mission is to provide an inclusive space curated for black women, where they can simply BE, connect authentically and celebrate their unique identities unapologetically with comfort and confidence.
HerHaus caters primarily to Black women in the Twin Cities area – women who are professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and those seeking intentional community where they can engage in meaningful conversations and self-discovery.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
First, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Support from others—whether through advice, collaboration, or resources—has made all the difference. Second, always put people first. Prioritizing relationships, community, and connection has helped us to build a strong foundation and reputation. Third, stay true to your mission. As challenges have risen, remembering our “why” has kept us grounded and keeps us moving forward. Lastly, share your vision with others—you’d be surprised how many people believe in your mission and are willing to support it. Some of our best partnerships have come from organic relationships and connections.
