Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Haugen
Hi Becca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my photography journey in 2013. Patient and supportive friends and family members were my subjects as I learned the technical components + felt more comfortable experimenting with my creativity. As I learned more about myself, I quickly realized that lifestyle photography is what felt the most natural for me. In home sessions, personality head shots and less posed became my style. Being a photographer, you are often also your client’s stylist. After many years of helping style photoshoots and meeting really cool local makers I realized that fashion and small businesses were another passion of mine. In May 2024 I opened Bungalow Boutique, a small women’s clothing boutique which also carries the work of local artist and makers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but smooth, but that’s when you learn the most. I’ve had to learn to navigate the busy seasons, balancing being a mom, business owner and making time for myself. I’ve subjected myself to hustle culture and fully embraced it, until I realized how much that did not work for me. Setting boundaries (and sticking to them) is helpful in not over booking my time. In contrast, slow season can mess with your head in a different way, too much idle time allows imposter syndrome to creep in. Learning to talk to myself, do grounding work and use the slow seasons to experiment with creativity and evolve my style has been a game changer.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer and a boutique owner. My photography specialty is family, seniors and branding. I thrive in unconventional settings and love to make sessions personalized. I love talking- to anyone and everyone, learning your stories + all about your life. I think we all have a beautiful story to tell and it’s important to me to capture that. I’m proud of the authenticity that reflects in each session.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the opportunities in Rochester. There is something for everyone and there are so many people making things happen which is super inspiring. Something I think Rochester could improve? A new venue for live music!
