Meet Kris Erickson of Brainerd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Erickson

Hi Kris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi friends! My name is Kris Erickson and our family lives in Brainerd, Minnesota. My husband, Nathan, and I have three kids, Clint, Kennedy, and Bentley. We also have three grandsons, Jaxon, Casen, and Ryker.

Snatch Mix has been a family treasured recipe that I have been making for more than twenty-five years. As a nurse, this was the snack I always brought for the break room table and a family favorite snack that we made as a special treat a couple of times a year.

Our family moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 2022 after spending several summers camping in the area. We were looking for a fun summer hobby, an opportunity to meet people, and a hope to form a supportive community around our youngest son as he has some extra health challenges and disabilities.

We are beyond grateful for the farmers market and local communities. We feel like we are part of a special community that feels like family.

Snatch Mix is a unique blend of cereals, crackers, nuts, and seasoning. We like to have fun here, so we like to spice up our mix with a little….or a lot of heat. We also added a dill pickle mix that quickly became our most popular flavor last summer.

We attended the Pine River Picklefest last summer and thought a show special, The Real Dill, mild would be a fun addition. Wow, we sold out and have added this flavor to our line up. We have several flavors: Original O.G., The Real Dill, Minnesota Spice, Firecracker, Ghost Pepper, and our Carolina reaper spice mix is called, Gull Dam Hot. We have a few new flavors we are working on, so stay tuned for updates!

As our business began to grow, we quickly found making mix in our family kitchen didn’t lend to the elbow room needed to make more mix. We chose to build a small, private commercial kitchen on our property to expand our business. This will also give our son an opportunity to work for a competitive wage should he decide this a job he wants to do when he’s older.

We feel incredibly grateful to live here and have made so many friends that support our little snack mix business. Snatch Mix is so yummy, someone just might snatch your bag away! We can be found at many local events and farmers markets. We also make large and small special orders all year.

You can find us at www.snatchmix.com and on Facebook & Instagram. Thank you, friends!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our road has been a beautiful journey. Raising a kiddo with medical complexities and disabilities has given us a unique view to make our decisions based on what brings the best quality of life and joy to our family.

Our commercial kitchen has been a leap of faith and belief that we can create a safe, equitable job opportunity for our son as he grows up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a registered nurse for the last twenty-six years, I did not envision having a snack mix business. Most of my career has been in skilled nursing facilities or quality improvement. I am most proud of the relationships, connections, and honored to have had the opportunity to witness some true miracles in this life.

I think what sets me apart from others is my endless pursuit for making meaningful connections with people while still honoring our journey. Did you know we collect soda can tabs for the Ronald Mc Donald House? We will give away a bag of mix for very bag of tabs. We donate the tabs back to the Ronald Mc Donald House as a tribute to the time spent there with our kiddo.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We love making friends along the way. Snatch Mix is just a little snack to share for the moment, the friendships last a lifetime.

Our son was born early and has had several surgeries over his thirteen years. We spent months at the Ronald Mc Donald House and this made a huge impact in our lives. As a way to give back, we give away free Snatch Mix to anyone that brings a bag of soda can tabs to a market. The customer can trade a bag of soda tabs for a bag of mix of their choice. There is no limit. We then take those tabs to the Ronald Mc Donald House for donation. Our family has been collecting them since our son was born and encourage all others to do so. We will be happy to drop all donations.
