My name is Luis Ventura, and I am the proud owner of Ventura Lawn Care LLC. My journey into the lawn care industry wasn’t traditional—I didn’t grow up in the business, and I didn’t start with years of experience. What I did have was a strong work ethic, a love for the outdoors, and an unwavering desire to create a better future for myself and my family.
I started my business because I always wanted more out of life. I was tired of working a set schedule for a big corporation, where my time and effort benefited someone else’s dream instead of my own. But beyond financial freedom, my biggest goal has always been to make my parents proud and take care of them in the future. I’ve always been very family-oriented, and they instilled in me the values that got me where I am today—hard work from my father and the courage to chase my happiness from my mother.
When I first started, I knew absolutely nothing about lawn care or landscaping. I had no clue where to begin, how to get clients, or even what equipment I needed. But I was never afraid of failure. I jumped in headfirst, buying broken equipment that barely ran but was good enough to get the job done. In the beginning, I worked for little to no profit, sometimes even for free, just to build credibility and get my name out there. I worked 10 to 13 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a full year before I finally landed my first big client—a turning point that changed my life and business for the better.
I never overthink things when it comes to my business. If something needs to be done, I do it immediately. I see every challenge as an investment, not a loss. Slowly but surely, I started upgrading my equipment, expanding my inventory, and growing my business. Of course, there have been ups and downs—big losses and unexpected setbacks—but I believe that consistency is key. Sticking to your dream no matter how hard it gets is what makes success possible.
Today, Ventura Lawn Care LLC is fully insured and officially registered, and I am proud to say I’ve secured my biggest accomplishment yet: a contract with a large HOA property. This opportunity has reinforced what I’ve always believed—hard work and perseverance pay off. Now, as a husband, a father, and a business owner at 33, my motivation is stronger than ever. My goals remain the same: to support my family, take care of my parents, and continue providing the best lawn care service to the wonderful people of Minnesota.
This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—starting and growing a business from scratch comes with its fair share of challenges.
One of the biggest struggles I faced early on was not knowing anything about the lawn care industry. I had no experience, no mentor, and no real guidance. I had to learn everything on my own—how to properly mow lawns, trim edges, maintain equipment, and provide the level of service that customers expect. On top of that, I had no idea how to get clients or even what equipment I truly needed.
Another challenge was balancing the business with my personal life. As a husband, father, and someone who deeply values family, it was hard to juggle long work hours with spending time with my loved ones. But I knew that every sacrifice was for a greater purpose—to build a better future for my family.
There were also setbacks along the way—equipment breaking down, losing money on jobs, and dealing with difficult customers. But I never saw these as failures, just lessons that helped me grow. Every obstacle pushed me to work harder, think smarter, and become a better business owner.
Despite the struggles, I’ve never regretted taking this path. The challenges have made me stronger, and looking back, I’m grateful for every tough moment because they led me to where I am today.
