Daily Inspiration: Meet Kennedy Youngren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Youngren

Hi Kennedy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I tell everybody I became a dietitian by the best accident! I had planned to go to college majoring in Pre-med: Biology with the hopes of becoming a radiologist.

However, the summer after freshman year, I wound up in a Nutrition 101 course and was hooked. Fastforward, I obtained a B.S. in dietetics, a minor in psychology, an M.S. in Exercise Science, with a sports nutrition focus. I had initially set the intention to become an MLB dietitian, but after meeting my then dairy farmer boyfriend, unless I got the MN Twins, that meant I was headed out of state. So, I put my minor to work and became the youth program dietitian for the Emily Program, working with adolescents with eating disorders while doing some 1:1 consulting on the side from 2020- late 2022.

In November, 2022, I had our daughter and I wanted to be with her as much as possible, so we made the jump and I went full-time in my private practice serving American Farmers, Ranchers, Cowboys and their families. I’ve never looked back. It has been the most joyous 2.5 years of my life. I’ve traveled the country speaking, working with brands, and the best part is serving this incredible community of American Agriculturists all while being able to be present on our farm with my family.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been the best, most interesting road to travel, as a dietitian working for men and women in agriculture.

There really isn’t anyone doing what I do, which gets me SO excited. I get to wake up everyday completely thrilled to do my job and work with incredible people.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Waverly, MN based registered dietitian who works primarily with men and women in agriculture, virtually. My goal is to really be the one stop nutrition shop for our agriculturalists.

As a dietitian who primarily works with rural men and women, I pride myself on being a dietitian for agriculture, in agriculture. Most people don’t understand this lifestyle and what it entails so being relatable and realistic with nutrition practices for them is something that allows both myself and my clients to be successful.

I take my masters degree and spin it to fuel farmers, ranchers, and cowboys like the athletes they are.

However, after having our daughter, I found a really deep passion for fertility nutrition, so I will finish up my Specialist in Prenatal Nutrition (SPN) certification at the end of May to be Minnesota’s first Specialist in Prenatal Nutrition through the Institute of Prenatal Nutrition. This allows me to also provide help in the form of fertility work with the families of my farmers, ranchers, and cowboys.

I can definitely say I’m most proud of the results my clients obtain. I give them the fuel, but they strike the match and being on the endrows watching that is pretty incredible. I tell them all, they truly don’t know all they’ve done for me in getting to be a part of their journey.

What makes you happy?
What brings me happiness, that’s a tough question. So many things. I’m so blessed to wake up and do a job I love, that doesn’t feel like a job. I have a beautiful, incredible family, a farm full of animals, and a life so many only dream of. When I met my husband, I remember one night when we were 19 or 20, he said to me “how could you ever want anything more?” as we were watching the sunset over what is now the homestead we live on. I didn’t understand it then, but I do now.

Other things that bring me crazy joy:
– Gardening
– Accruing as many animals as possible: We’ve got 2 dogs, runner ducks, chickens, 2 ponies for our daughter, a donkey, and a dairy farm full of cows where I watch my husband live out his dreams of continuing the legacy his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather built for him.
– Coaching softball
– Spending time with my family: my parents and grandparents all live within 15 minutes of our house
– I’m an avid gym go-er, I love pilates, outdoor walks, anything that gets you moving!
– Spending time with our besties who have littles the same age as our daughter.
