Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyson Hennis
Tyson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At the age of 12 i started using drugs. By 13 i was doing time in a Minnesota state juvenile facility. I spent my youth struggling with drugs and alcohol. I was in and out of facilities, due to my run in with the law. I struggled with identity issues, trying to find a way. Find my true self. I was depressed, lost and angry. I was broken. As i got older my drug use and criminal activity only increased. I graduated on to jails, treatment centers and ultimately prison. In 2014 i was in prison for the 3rd time, serving a 45 month sentence. It was during this time i had encounter with someone that would change my life forever. That person is Jesus. After a back injury i was forced to do something else with my life. I decided to start cutting hair as it was a side hobby. Today i currently own my own barber shop. I’m 10 years sober and my son lives with me full time. I don’t look at what i do as a simple hair cut, it’s an opportunity to be a light in the community. To love on others in there day to day life. My hope is that clients leave not only looking better, but feeling a sense of hope.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have 6 felonies and am covered in tattoos haha, so there were many just being judged on my past and apperance. Starting this shop truly took a village. I’ve had so much help from so many people that it made my dream a little less bumpy. i had a lot of love and guidance in staying sober and never giving up.
We’ve been impressed with Seraphim Studios, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in haircuts, fades, designs, beard trims and fashion colors designs. My mission is more to love on people then it is a haircut. I thrive on the relationships, being an ear for the broken, advice for the lost and a hug for the broken. I offer free haircuts for the homeless and do free haircut events for the less fortunate at least once or twice a year. I want people to know this a safe place to come receive not only a great cut, but an acceptance and love conversation. Life isn’t all about money.
What’s next?
At this time I’m not sure, hopefully one day grow and expand, to be a light in the darkest parts of the world.
