Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Printon

Hi Kristin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My childhood involved being a military brat who moved a few times, and I mostly grew up in a trailer park, that’s how not from money I am. However, I was raised with a good work ethic, and started working at age 13. As a teenager, I took courses in entrepreneurship and financial planning, where I started to recognize that while money is something we all deal with daily, few of us have any formal financial education or training. After realizing that I had a natural talent for numbers, cash flow, and organization, along with wanting to build a career where I could create a real impact for those around me, I started down the path to becoming a financial planner.

While in college, I studied abroad in Australia for 6-months, and this experience gave me the confidence to solo-backpack around Western Europe for 3-months after graduating. This was a life-changing experience, and ultimately led me to Minnesota, my current parent-company, and my husband, who I share 2 kids with.

Almost 15 years later, I still love what I do and have helped grow a team that is just as passionate about this work as I am.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe anytime you’re building something from scratch, there will be struggles, whether they’re external, internal, or both. For me, I had enough motivation, rose-colored glasses, and naivete to get me through my first year. After that, reality hit and the amount of rejection I faced started to weigh on me. I also had a mentor at the time who was going through a lot of personal changes, so I ended up being on my own, but failure was never an option for me. In my bones, I believed (and still do) that I’m meant to do this work, so I got a second job to pay the bills while I wasn’t earning anything in my business.

If you do enough of the right things, people eventually find out. As the number of clients grew, so too did the number of referrals. A few years later, I met my now business partner, and together we’ve helped each other learn and grow to where we are today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A promoter of financial planning without judgment, my goal is to be your financial advocate, not your financial critic. I’m a fierce believer in empowering my clients to make informed decisions with confidence and clarity. I recognize that every person has a different vision for success and my main goal in working with you is to fulfill that vision for your own future. With a knack for balancing your competing life goals, I help my clients weigh the pros and cons of each situation and then develop a tailored plan to pursue each goal.

I believe you attract like-minded people, so most of my clients are busy working moms, who are the primary wage-earner and primary decision-maker for their families. They love their families and love what they do, but are overwhelmed with all the responsibilities of life. They’re at a stage where they’re defining what they want their lives to look like, and are shifting their focus to living an intentional life, and this is something I aim to do as well. Showing women how to use money to best serve them is so rewarding because I’m proof that you don’t need to come from money to learn how to be great with it!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to let go of other people’s opinions. This is often easier said than done, but ultimately your life is your responsibility and no one else’s, so you should live it on your terms. This might invite criticism because you’re blazing a different trail, but you do not have to take on the weight of other people’s opinions or expectations. Innovators are often the ones most criticized in the beginning, but if you hold true to yourself and take consistent action, I believe everyone can build a life they love.
