Check Out Alex Coven’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Coven.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I developed a passion for music and art at a young age. One of my earliest memories is from when I was around four years old, exploring my creativity in my family home in Cleveland. I was always drawn to the process of creating something from nothing, finding excitement in both music and visual arts. I began experimenting with the family piano and practicing by drawing characters from my favorite video games. Soon after, I started developing my own characters, sketching them on note cards, and selling them throughout my neighborhood—collecting my earnings in a shoebox.

In high school, I joined my first band and started designing merchandise for other musicians, which further deepened my creative journey. I pursued post-secondary education in both design and music, seamlessly transitioning from high school to College. At 18, I moved to Chicago to continue my studies at Columbia College, refining my artistic voice and beginning to take on professional creative work for clients.

After college, I gained experience at various agencies and boutique studios, further developing my skills and perspective within the creative industry. This ultimately led me to co-found my own design studio with colleagues, allowing me to fully explore my artistic vision and entrepreneurial ambitions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, the journey has been fairly smooth. Of course, there have been peaks and valleys, but I feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered something I’m both passionate and curious about at an early age.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My specialty in design lies in branding, website, and user interface design. In music, my style is more varied, and I’m not particularly known for any one genre. Currently, I focus on synth-pop infused with jazz-inspired extended chords, as well as ambient music for easy listening. I’m still in the process of defining my musical voice, and exploring different styles is a key part of that journey.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Where happiness and comfort coalesce.

  • I don’t really have set prices for work as each project is completely different and don’t think that model works unless you make templated work.
