Meet Camille Bates of Animal Rescue Non-Profit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Bates.

Hi Camille, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with two little old Shih Tzus named Candy and Cookie from a Puppy Mill who were overlooked, left behind and forgotten by other organizations. MARS started in 2006 and has saved over 21,000 animals focusing on mainly cats and dogs. If we can help – We do our part!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it always been a smooth road? Not at all, we learned early on in rescue that community is key in the animal welfare industry. While it isn’t always easy, it is always worth it. We’ve faced countless hurdles in the last (almost) 20 years and each one made us better! With every struggle we’ve faced, it’s made us a stronger, better nonprofit to better serve our community, and pets.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Animal Rescue Non-Profit?
Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) is a non-profit based in Brooklyn Park, MN. We offer adoption services, as well as a vet clinic open to seeing community pets, obedience training services, and several other community services – such as a lower cost microchipping event coming up in May for Brooklyn Park resident pets to always have a way back home.

We believe in:

• Supporting Both Pets and People.
• Doing Better.
• Thinking Differently.
• Problem Solving.

There’s always ways to get involved and help – We’d love it if you would consider joining our community by fostering, donating, and sharing the word!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Lean on your community, and communicate with each other! People want to help people. When we need someone to help bring a dog or cat home to foster (temporary house) until they find their forever (adoptive) home, we ask! If we need donations, we are. Right now, we are looking to bring a second vet to our Vet Clinic team…and we’re asking for help in finding one!
