Community Highlights: Meet Khamilla Vang of Glam by Kham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khamilla Vang.

Hi Khamilla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by beauty. I remember constantly begging my mom for makeup so much that my cousin and I ended up using kids’ paint as eyeshadow until she finally gave in. That creative spark never left me. I loved glamming up myself, my friends, and my family. We’d even have little photo shoots before Instagram was even a thing!

In 2015, I went off to college to study retail merchandising and management. While I was there, I started doing makeup for people and that’s when everything shifted. I realized how much I loved it, not just for fun, but as something I could truly pursue. I started freelancing, first with friends and family, then for fashion shows, photoshoots, and eventually had the opportunity to work with Chanel cosmetics. That’s when it hit me: I could really turn this into a career.

The next step was esthetician school. Once I got licensed, I dove deep into skincare and lash extensions, working at different salons and spas to build experience. Then in 2021, after the world slowed down from COVID, I took a leap of faith and started my own business. I was backed by an amazing support system and knew it was time to follow my dream fully.

In 2022, I explored permanent makeup, completed a tattoo apprenticeship, and discovered a whole new passion for tattooing. It was a natural extension of everything I’d already been doing another way to help people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.

I truly believe that every step of my journey has happened for a reason. Every challenge, opportunity, and pivot has shaped me into the artist and business woman I am today. I’m so excited to see where this path continues to take me, and I’m committed to using everything I’ve learned to uplift others and help them feel their best inside and out.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had so many amazing wins throughout this journey, but it definitely hasn’t always been rainbows and butterflies. To stay financially afloat, there were times I had to work multiple jobs, Thankfully, I’ve always had a strong work ethic and was no stranger to juggling more than one job but that doesn’t mean it was easy.

Balancing that with building my own business, providing services, keeping up with a social life, and still making time for myself has been challenging. There have been moments where I had to skip events, turn down vacations, or make personal sacrifices to put my business first.

Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve had times where I doubted myself wondering if I should be further along or comparing my progress to others. However, what I’ve learned is that everyone’s journey is different and everything happens in divine timing. Every struggle I’ve faced has taught me something valuable and made me stronger and more knowledgeable. It’s all part of the process, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
At Glam by Kham, my mission goes far beyond just making people look good. It’s about helping them feel seen, empowered, and confident in their own skin. Beauty is personal, I believe everyone deserves to experience it in a way that feels luxurious and affirming.

When a client books with me it’s not just an appointment, it’s a moment they’re choosing for themselves. From the second they walk in I want them to feel like they belong in that chair and that they deserve this experience. Every detail is intentional from the calming vibe of my suite to the way I tailor each service to meet their needs. One client favorite is lash extensions, which give that soft, enhanced, and effortless look that brings out the eyes and adds a boost of confidence without needing a full glam routine. I’m always dreaming big whether it’s learning new techniques, expanding my service menu, or creating new ways to elevate the client experience. However, the heart of what I do will always be the relationships I build. My clients become more than regulars, they become part of my journey, and I’m beyond grateful for every one of them.
