Today we’d like to introduce you to Halima Adeduntan.
Hi Halima, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been posting on social media since I was in middle school. Even though my mom couldn’t afford to get me the clothes and things I wanted, I still found any way to make some money and get myself “materialistic” items. My sense of fashion comes from having to use what I have and kind of recycling my pieces because I don’t like spending hella money on clothes. As I was posting on my socials and growing up , I started helping my friends post as well . It seemed like I was the main person taking everyone’s photos, from my mom to my friends etc etc . It’s around my senior year of high school and I was taking a photography class, I’ve taken one my freshman year as well but I didn’t pay any mind in that class due to Covid-19 . So as a senior I was lowkey always late to school and Photography was my first class of the day so I’d go in late everyday or not at all. When I was there though, my teacher at the time; Joe Davis, pointed out that my work was really good. Him telling me that kind of just sparked my interest to get into photography and from there I’ve been shooting ! I always expected myself too be in front of the Camera but being behind it feels so comforting. It was like a natural grasp .
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say everything is perfect because there comes time I’m not really secure with my work and get discouraged too keep doing what I do but i’m only a beginner so I need to just keep it pushing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Photographer. I mainly shoot Lifestyle portraits but I’m always down to get in the studio ! In my area I’m mostly known for the way I dress and associate with people. I’m really a social butterfly and this has helped me with my photography as well. I’m most proud of finding my own niche, it took a while for me to figure out what I really want to do after high school but I’ve finally found my passion besides school. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I don’t care about how people view me, I like being my true authentic self no matter who doesn’t like it.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One my favorite childhood memories are when my close neighbors used to sneak in our backyard and through my window to hang out with us. Those times were so wholesome , they had several siblings and so do I. We’d all just hang out at the house, eat, make a mess, go to the park etc etc .
