Daily Inspiration: Meet Freakwhensee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Freakwhensee.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a sports kid growing up, It wasn’t until I was 17 that I picked up the guitar. I spent the next 7 years watching YouTube and improvising on top of my own chords with a loop pedal. This formed the foundation for my musicianship. During the pandemic I picked up other instruments like piano and bass guitar. Eventually, I worked up the courage to go out and network, Jam, and meet other musicians in the city. Fast forward to now and I’ve played in around 20 different groups and played hundreds of shows. Recently I’ve dived much more into the producer world and want to pursue that fully.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Id say the biggest bane of all artists is being your own worst critic. For me Its a constant battle of getting out of my own way. I’ve always been in my head, but I’ve grown to appreciate it. Its hard to see my growth sometimes but It definitely keeps me grounded. Aside from that, quitting my job to pursue music full time has definitely been a challenge, but I’m getting by.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Producer/multi-instrumentalist. I can do a little bit of everything which is very useful as someone who creates music. I’m certainly most known for my performances on stage but I’d like to change that to my production. I seem to have a strong understanding of putting emotion into the music that I’m creating. I feel like a lot of modern music is lacking that.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Being self taught, I haven’t had any teachers or mentors, but I am very grateful for the musician friends that I’ve gigged with or jammed with. I’ve learned so much from them. I will say that I am currently looking for mentorship because I know the value of it and I think it would really help me reach a new level.
