Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Pierce.
Hi Charlie , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into filmmaking and photography through two avenues. The first was from my dad, who always carried his DSLR around, taking pictures of various events. The second was when my friends and I from the neighborhood where I grew up would make home movies. From then on, my obsession and need to create stories through video only deepened. My parents gifted me this little Samsung point-and-shoot camera, which I would bring everywhere, taking photos of everything alongside video. That camera was my most prized possession at the time. I found it so cool how it had different filters built into it, and I would use them to make up stories and film skits. Then, when I got older, most people grew out of making home movies, but I guess I never did. I started making more original narrative-based short films to upload to YouTube, while learning, getting better.
In September of 2024, I shifted into doing a lot more freelance work: Music Videos, Promo Videos. trying to make money doing what I love, so I can get better equipment and do it for the rest of my life. Right now, I only shoot on a 1080p camera, which most would consider a beginner camera, but I get a professional image out of it and am looking to upgrade soon. Currently, I’m looking to get a job working in production for professional sports. I’m hoping to be able to do that while in my off hours, working on this story concept that I’m hoping to turn into an Oscar-winning feature film.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road; some of the biggest struggles I’ve faced can be summed up as time, money, and resources. Walt Disney once said, “We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies,” which I think encapsulates so many artists’ perspective. So many artists have revolutionary ideas but don’t have the connections, resources, or money to execute them. Reassurance is another decent obstacle. When you put countless hours into a project only for it to get a few views and no comments, no feedback, or criticism, it’s hard to grow, and it’s disheartening. It’s been important for me to keep a strong mind and focus on the future.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I call myself a Film Director, but I’m truly a Filmmaker, an Editor, Cinematographer, Writer, and Producer. I think the word that best describes me is a storyteller. That’s all that it is about. I simply choose to tell stories through the greatest medium that exists: film and video.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It could go in many different ways; only time can tell. Right now, I’m just focused on myself and where I will be going over the next 5-10 years.
