Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Blumenberg.
Hi Jaclyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There has always been something about the beauty industry that piqued my interest. Even as a child, I watched my mom’s cousin so intently while she cut our hair—every movement she made fascinated me.
When I was in high school and my first year of college, I started working at The Hair District in Plymouth as a receptionist, which I believe solidified my decision to become a hairstylist. Being around so many ambitious, career-minded women who owned their own businesses inspired me. I went to cosmetology school and started my career as a hairstylist at the age of 20.
Five and a half years after leaving The Hair District (as a receptionist), I came back to rent my own chair. It felt like coming home, 9 years later, it still is.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, like any business, there are a lot of different personalities, some difficult managers in the past.
Owning your own business is not a cake walk. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and learning. Finding a work/ life balance has not been easy. I missed out on a lot of social events early in my career, and still do at times. However, it is 100% worth it in the long run.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Independent Hairstylist, I rent my chair at The Hair District in Plymouth.
My services include:
Haircuts
Shampoo & Style
Brazilian Blowouts
Updo
Hair Color

Facial Waxing
I pride myself on creating and building personal relationship with every client who sits in my chair. My clients aren’t just clients, they’re like family to me. Helping my clients look and feel their best is something I take great pride in, I have had clients come in having the worst day, only to leave with a smile on their face and a pep in their step, Its incredibly rewarding!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe good luck comes into play with the people you surround yourself with. I was very lucky that, because I worked in a salon as a receptionist, I had a plethora of other stylists with whom I had built relationships—people I could learn from and grow from.
