Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Robiller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Almost five years ago, I took a leap into the marketing world by messaging someone I saw on LinkedIn who had recently started their own marketing business. At the time, I was working in social work but knew I wanted to pivot into marketing. Without a degree or experience in the field, many larger agencies turned me down.
It was Hannah, a co-founder of Seeq Supply, who took a chance on me. I quit the role I was in — one that wasn’t suited for me — and geared up to do what I felt I was meant to do: digital marketing. I worked with various clients across several industries, even with clients who had never met me — from states as far as Florida — curating content for their brands.
Around the same time I started freelancing, I also began promoting local electronic music shows with SIMshows. After gaining enough experience, I finally felt confident enough to help with their socials, and JT handed me the keys to the SIMshows TikTok — one of the accounts I’m more known for. It’s been about a year and a half since I’ve been more involved with SIMshows, and I’ve loved every second of it — filming content at shows and interacting with our audience both in person and online.
You may have also seen my work with Electric Enclave, another electronic music promoter based in Wilmington, North Carolina. They’re an incredible team of hardworking, passionate people, and I’m so glad I can be part of their growing community. It’s an incredible feeling to help bring the rave community together, even while living across the country!
Hairpolice, a salon in Uptown, is one of my favorite clients! We’ve traveled across the country together doing festival braids, and I’ve loved working with so many talented stylists over the last two years of our social media partnership. After getting my own festival braids, I knew I had to join the Hairpolice team and be part of their social strategy. Two years later, the rest is history.
After five years, here we are — working with three incredible clients in the industries I love most!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, freelancing in digital marketing has been an incredible journey for me — one filled with self-reflection and challenges. Almost daily, I find myself stepping outside of my comfort zone, doing things I haven’t done before, and constantly pushing myself. I’ve had plenty of late nights (working until six in the morning with my favorite people) and my fair share of larger brands stealing my content. One thing I struggle with is imposter syndrome — feeling like I’m not as experienced or skilled as I truly am. It’s something I’m still working on to this day. The struggles I’ve faced so far have been minuscule, and I consider myself extremely lucky.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Specializing in digital marketing, I help businesses build branding, develop content strategies, create content, write copy, curate newsletters, partner with influencers, and so much more! I’m used to wearing several hats in a role like this.
I’m most known for my organic social media posts — AKA the fun, creative stuff you see while scrolling online. The most reach I’ve gotten on a single video is 22 million views. But what I’m most proud of is the work I’ve done with SIMshows. I’ve been lucky enough to work directly with some of my favorite artists, like ATLiens, creating a series of funny videos to spark our audience’s interest in their headlining show. It still doesn’t feel real to work face-to-face with artists I’ve listened to for years!
What sets me apart? My ability to create original content that resonates with your brand’s target audience and builds loyal communities. My content doesn’t go viral 24/7, but it does reach the right people and tug at their heartstrings.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
While creating strategies and content from home, my background music of choice is people playing Minecraft for ten hours at a time. It’s like ASMR to me — I can focus on my work for longer periods, and the soundtrack is actually really nice. Try it out sometime and thank me later.
