Hidden Gems: Meet Leah Mtegha of The Green Clean Crew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Mtegha.

Hi Leah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like most people, I never changed until something significant happened in my life. For me, that moment came in 2011 when I lost my beloved father to cancer. Having always shared a close relationship with him, this loss was devastating. I knew I needed to transform myself and become stronger for my mother, who was now alone. This would be especially challenging for her—not only was she in her retirement years, but she had been married to my dad for 39 years, and they had been inseparable.
I began researching new opportunities, took business classes, and eventually found my way to cleaning services. Ironically, I wasn’t always tidy—my close friends can confirm this—but something changed within me, though I can’t pinpoint exactly when. I discovered that whenever I cleaned my space and organized my surroundings, it brought a profound sense of calm. Whenever my mind felt chaotic, my environment reflected that same disorder. Fascinating connection, isn’t it?
A few years ago, a friend introduced me to aromatherapy. She couldn’t stop praising how it helped her relax. I was skeptical at first—how could a simple scent affect my mood? However, curiosity led me to experiment with essential oils myself. I created a blend hoping to reduce my stress levels. One day after cleaning my home, I spritzed this aroma mixture into the air. To my surprise, it genuinely improved how I felt! The fragrance was subtle, soothing, and not at all overpowering. My home transformed into a sanctuary of peace and vitality. I felt calmer, less stressed, more focused, and energized.
That’s when I wondered: what if I used essential oils in my clients’ offices after cleaning? Could aromatherapy enhance their mood too? Might it help them feel calmer, more energized, and better focused—potentially increasing both happiness and work performance? I tested my special aroma blend with a few clients, and it worked! They reported similar positive effects.
This discovery led to me starting the The Green Clean Crew, LLC.

What began as a part-time opportunity has grown into a full-time business that not only generates profit but also employs people who are now providing for their families.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business has its own unique challenges. But those challenges, I’ve discovered, actually exist to move you to the next level.
One of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome as a business owner was fear. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re carrying fear. I carried fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of managing employees, fear that they wouldn’t trust me, they do and they are actually looking for leadership and direction from you.

What I discovered was that to overcome these fears, I had to keep moving forward. I had to keep pushing. When facing fear, I needed the power and resilience to continue moving ahead. For me, what grounded me was my faith in God knowing that no matter what happens, He’s got me. I’ve learned to surround myself with people going in the same direction—other business owners who are moving forward and pushing ahead. Surrounding myself with others in the industry who have already gone through what you’re experiencing now.

Another obstacle I had to overcome was mindset. When you’ve been an employee for a long time, it’s very hard to think like a business owner. You’re no longer the employee waiting for a paycheck with assigned tasks. You are now the business owner—everything starts with you. You have to bring in revenue. Shifting that mindset—realizing I needed to put myself out there and generate income—was the biggest mental adjustment I had to make.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We believe cleaning is noble, and a clean, organized space creates an environment where one can thrive.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is seeing people live productive lives. A clean space is a great space. When clutter surrounds you, you’re not able to think clearly or accomplish what you need to because you waste time searching for things.
I find great joy knowing that when clients return to their homes or offices, their spaces are clean, fragrant, and organized. They’re free to focus on priorities instead of wasting time cleaning and organizing.

What also matters deeply to me is helping others accomplish their goals. One of my employees told me, “Leah, I’d like to finish building my house in my home country, and I want this job to help me do that.” Being part of her journey to achieve this dream has brought me tremendous satisfaction.
