Meet Clayton Kettering of Woods & Water Carpentry LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clayton Kettering.

Hi Clayton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I worked for smaller framing companies for years got to a spot where I was a foreman for 7-10 man crews. Got into an arguement with my boss about how he ran his company got fired. This happened about 4 weeks before me and my wife’s first child and she told me I should just do it myself and run my own company. 11 years later 3 kids later here we are.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first years were the hardest being broke a lot working a lot. Hardest in the early years was finding help I remember building 4000 sq ft houses with one guy and almost giving up. Now I have 7 guys and it’s more smooth sailing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Woods & Water Carpentry LLC?
We do framing of houses and commercial projects. Recently we expanded into metal roofing and siding. I’ve done all this stuff forever as a sun but got my builders license giving me freedom to design and do whatever. I take alot of pride in my work and am very good at what I do. We build people’s dreams and they are very happy to have us there to do it.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just be ready for long days and things not always going your way. It’s like a rollercoaster with finances as well but when it’s good just remeber to keep your businesses piggy bank with money in it cause you will always need some in there.
