Conversations with Ava Godwin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ava Godwin.

Hi Ava, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed baking and have been around people who are bakers so it felt natural for me. I started seeing many videos and tutorials on cookie decorating and I was really eager to try it out. I realized I was pretty good at it! I first made birthday cookies in October, then thanksgiving cookies, and then I started taking orders for Christmas cookies which lead to me taking orders for other occasions as well! It’s definitely a lot of work but the outcome is always worth it and I love sharing my work with people!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been challenging to juggle between work, college classes, and baking however I always figure it out! Even if that means staying up super late or having little rest time. It takes many hours to complete the orders but I love getting to be creative and make people happy with my work!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My specialty product is my decorated sugar cookies but I also make cakes too! In my little town that I live in, there is not many bakeries or people who do specialty baked goods. To my knowledge, there is no one else who does the decorated sugar cookies in my town so that definitely makes me unique. I love that I get to bring something new to everyone. It’s so cool when people bring my cookies to events that involve a lot of people from our town. I also love getting to try out new themes for cookies. I have so many cookie cutters and I keep getting more. I basically have some for almost any occasion!

What’s next?
I plan on continuing to take even more orders for cookies! I plan on having a booth at a farmers market a couple times in the summer to sell my products and get my business out there more. I would like to try out making macarons and bread to potentially start selling. I would also like to start having more of a presence on Tik Tok and other social media platforms to showcase my business and work on my digital marking skills (which is what I’m going to college for).

Pricing:

  • Currently, I sell my cookies at $30 per dozen but the price might increase soon.
