Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayla Dougherty.
Hi Ayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into real estate began in 2018, a natural progression that stemmed from a long-held passion for people, design, and architecture. As my youngest child started school full-time, I found myself with the opportunity to pursue this interest more seriously.
Our own experience purchasing our first home in this beautiful lakeside community truly sparked my intrigue with the real estate process. I vividly remember the excitement and significance of that milestone, and it gave me a deep appreciation for the importance of finding the right place to build a life and create memories.
Beyond that personal experience, I’ve always found myself drawn to exploring different neighborhoods and admiring the unique character of various homes. This inherent curiosity, combined with my desire to connect with people and help them navigate significant life decisions, naturally led me to real estate. Since then, I’ve been dedicated to learning the intricacies of the market and honing my skills to effectively guide clients through their own real estate journeys, always keeping in mind the profound impact a home can have on their lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been a completely smooth road, but the challenges have definitely contributed to my growth and resilience in this industry.
The most significant hurdle, without a doubt, was navigating the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The global shutdown created a great deal of uncertainty in the real estate market, impacting everything from showings and open houses to the overall sentiment of buyers and sellers. It required a significant shift in how we operated, embracing virtual tools and prioritizing safety while still striving to provide excellent service. It was a period that demanded adaptability and perseverance, and I’m proud of how we continued to pursue our goals despite those challenges.
More locally, the consistent lack of inventory in the Duluth market has presented an ongoing challenge. It creates a competitive environment for buyers and requires a proactive and strategic approach to help them find the right properties. It also necessitates creative solutions for sellers to maximize their opportunities in a supply-constrained market.
Despite these past and present challenges, I have a really good feeling about 2025. While interest rates and general economic uncertainty are always factors to consider, there’s a palpable positive energy and momentum that I’m sensing in the local market. I’m optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead and am well-prepared to navigate any potential shifts
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Absolutely, my journey in real estate wouldn’t be where it is today without the incredible support and guidance of several key individuals and groups.
First and foremost, I have to give immense credit to Deanna Bennett. My internship with her during my first year in the business was truly foundational. She took me under her wing and provided invaluable insights into the intricacies of the Duluth market, the nuances of client relationships, and the practical skills needed to succeed. That initial mentorship was everything in establishing a solid base for my career.
Beyond that crucial start, I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of my brokerage. They provide the resources, training, and collaborative environment that are essential for navigating the day-to-day challenges and opportunities in real estate. Knowing I have their backing and expertise is a tremendous asset.
I’m also fortunate to have an amazing network of work friends who act as constant cheerleaders and a vital support system. They provide encouragement, a listening ear, and help me stay grounded amidst the demands of the business. Having that personal support is invaluable.
Finally, and most importantly, my clients deserve a huge amount of credit. Their trust in me and the positive experiences we share are the very reason I love what I do. Each successful transaction, each happy client, fuels my passion and reinforces the value of the work I undertake. Their referrals and repeat business are a testament to the relationships we build, and they are a constant source of motivation.
So, while my own dedication and hard work have played a role, the guidance of Deanna, the support of my brokerage and friends, and the trust of my clients have been absolutely instrumental in my success and the growth of my business
