Today we’d like to introduce you to Hells Paradise.
Hi Hells, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We go by the name of Chris & Rixx where we’ve been surrounded by music for as long as we can remember. Growing up on hip-hop, our love for the culture turned into action in 2005, when we were just high school freshmen recording tracks in a friend’s low-budget basement studio. What started off as a hobby quickly turned into a passion—and a dream!
Our big break came when our childhood friend, Lil Crazed—already making waves in the music scene—invited us to join and help launch an indie label called King in Disguise. That’s when things got real for us. We started putting in hours day and night at the studio—writing, recording, and shooting music videos around the clock. Back when platforms like YouTube, SoundClick, and Myspace were just catching fire, our songs started going viral, racking up millions of views.
The buzz we created led to shows across the country, and soon enough, music wasn’t just a part of our lives—it was our life. All this while juggling the challenges of being young dads, traveling artists, and full-time dreamers. It wasn’t easy, but the love from our families, friends, and fans kept us pushing forward.
After years with the label, we decided to branch off and start something of our own. That’s when Hells Paradise was born—a creative movement that helped us evolve more than just artists. Today, we are still at it—dropping singles, releasing full projects, music videos, and performing in cities we’d never thought we’d see. Everything you hear and see was all done in house.
From a basement in Minnesota to stages across the nation, we are proof that passion, persistence, and making good music can take you a long way!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even close. Being Asian in the hip-hop world came with its own set of challenges. We constantly felt like we had to prove ourselves—not just as artists, but as voices that belonged in a space where we weren’t always seen or heard. On top of that, we were juggling full-time jobs, fatherhood, late nights in the studio, and long hours on the road.
There were times we barely slept. Times we questioned if it was worth it. But every setback, every sacrifice, every “no” pushed us to grind harder. The struggles shaped us. They made us more resilient, more creative, and more committed to the vision. It hasn’t been easy—and honestly, it still isn’t—but we’re proud of how far we’ve come. And we’re especially grateful for the people who’ve supported us from the beginning. Our community and our fans have always been our backbone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Hells Paradise, we make music that comes from the heart. We’re a rap duo, but more than that, we’re storytellers. Our songs reflect real-life experiences—struggles, wins, pain, growth, and everything in between. We’ve been through it, and we put all of that into our music. It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it’s honest.
We’re known for keeping it real. People connect with our lyrics because they’re relatable. Whether we’re talking about family, chasing dreams, or dealing with setbacks, we don’t sugarcoat it. And when we hit the stage, we bring that same energy—passionate, personal, and powerful.
What we’re most proud of is building everything from the ground up. No shortcuts, no big machine behind us. Just years of grinding, learning, and evolving. We started out recording in a basement and now we’re performing in cities we never thought we’d even visit. That journey means everything.
What makes us different is that we’re not trying to be anyone else. We’re Asian artists in a space that hasn’t always made room for us—and instead of hiding that, we embrace it. Hells Paradise is about finding beauty in the chaos, and our music reflects that balance. It’s our story, and we’re proud to share it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck definitely played a role—but not always the kind people think. We’ve had some good luck, like meeting the right people at the right time, getting co-signed by our brother Lil Crazed early on, or having a song go viral when we least expected it. Linking up with other talented artists like Bubz, P.Nutty, and Eyeowe helped shape our sound and pushed us creatively. Moments like that gave us the momentum we needed to keep going.
But we’ve also had our fair share of bad luck—missed opportunities, shows falling through, equipment breaking, even personal life stuff hitting at the worst possible time. There were moments where it felt like everything was against us.
That said, we don’t rely on luck. It might open a door, but it’s the work you put in that keeps it open. We’ve learned to stay ready, stay grounded, and keep moving no matter what’s thrown our way. If anything, the ups and downs have made our story that much more real.
