Hi Levi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Beaver River Farm has been in my family for over 100 years. Located in Fredenberg township just off the Beaver River that feeds into Fish Lake. The farm has mainly been a cattle operation over the years. My parents Ben and Kathy (3rd generation farmers) have been working with me and my wife Jeanne to transition the property into a wedding venue. The idea came to us in June of 2020 when close friends needed an outdoor wedding space. Things have really taken off since then. The original farmhouse is now a space for the bridal party to prepare for their special day. My father and I have created a woodland ceremony site that can seat 300 people. There is a short walk between that area and the reception hall. The reception hall has the capacity for 295 guests with all the amenities you’d expect to find in the city. We just put the finishing touches on our western themed saloon! The saloon will be open to the public soon on one of our off peak nights (Sunday-Thursday). When people book a Friday, Saturday, or weekend package they are getting a private event. Our wedding season starts mid May and goes through October. We are still keeping the farming tradition alive as we move into the agritourism industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no! Yes because we already had a structure (machinery barn) and beautiful property. We were able to acquire the circle sawn milled lumber from a family friend to finish the interior. And all of Levi’s extra time to build everything.
The no part is just about having to re-zone from agriculture to commercial. There was a lot involved and we were able to overcome the obstacles, but it was worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Beaver River Farm Wedding and Events ?
We are a farm wedding and event venue. Our goal is to have our guests feel at home on the farm and enjoy the beauty we see every day. We have the ability to accommodate a plated dining service, your favorite food truck, and anything in between. We like to give our couples the option to make their special day just the way they want it. We can also handle a very large crowd. Duluth Apple Palooza has been located here with upwards of 10,000 people over its weekend. We are versatile and have had a movie studio use our farm. Many photographers have been out using our land as the backdrop to their photo sessions. When our bar opens to the public it will be one more service that we are able to offer.
How do you think about luck?
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity- that is the saying that we go by. We believe there has been a lot of luck in our lives and the Lord provides.
