Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Warner.
Hi Kat, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started with yoga in 2009 after I graduated college and wanted to do a lifestyle change before moving to Madison, WI. Yoga was the absolute last game on the WII Fit and I was so into high intensity work outs that yoga seemed pointless. As you can see I was wrong. shortly after I went to my first real yoga class in a studio and just fell in love with it. It is an accessible style of fitness as you don’t need equipment and you can do it at home.
From there I was off and on consistent with yoga but rediscovered my love of it once I moved back to Superior, WI. My boyfriend asked if I ever thought about teaching since I loved it so much and that was kind of it. I found a yoga teacher training that was once a month and started teaching almost immediately at a few local studios in Duluth, MN. I opened a physical space right before COVID and just never recovered from the pandemic and the physical space closed in 2022.
Since then I have been collaborating with local businesses to offer in person classes other I have the YouTube channel, Facebook Live and the At Home Yoga Program!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say this has been a rollercoaster! From figuring out my own teaching voice/vibe to trying to create unique classes (and getting some copy right emails!) to owning a business, it has been an adventure.
The Pandemic definitely made things harder all around and I had to learn how to meet the community where it was at while still staying afloat.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Align Yoga?
One thing that I am so proud of is the community I have created around the motto “Create Your Yoga”! My goal is to make yoga/fitness fun, functional, accessible and affordable. I feel like I have created a space where people are comfortable talking, laughing and modifying to what they need during class and I absolutely love it.
I also love my logo the Sloth! It was something that I thought would help the studio stick out but it ended up being more. STORY BEHIND THE LOGO:
The Sloth perfectly embodies the mission of the studio (see below)! To be completely honest it started out as a joke. Adopting the Sloth as a way to make my being “lazy” more acceptable. To help motivate me when I just had no energy. The more I researched the Sloth, and by research I basically mean Pinterest quotes/info, the more I realized how perfect it was! Not only do I love embracing my inner Sloth but it fit everything I wanted for the studio (see below).
Sloth may be a deadly sin but that couldn’t be farther from the truth! Sloth is a simple and yet complex example of how to prioritize self-care and rest. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s ok to attend to your own needs first and focus on yourself for a moment. To rest sufficiently. To eat nourishing foods. To do things that make your soul happy. When you take care of yourself then you are better able to take care of others. Everyone needs to embrace their inner Sloth every now and again.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as I made people happy!
People walk in with so much on their plate and if I can help them relax, smile or even laugh a little then I call it a success!
It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that someone had a great experience in my class and is taking that home with them.
