Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Gutierrez.
Hi Paula, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires Argentina. As a kid, I grew up helping my grandmother bake delicious pastries. She inspired me and ignited my passion for baking. When my daughters were born, I started baking and decorating cakes. What started as a fun activity for their birthdays quickly turned into a business when the mothers of their classmates began to ask me to bake cakes for their children´s birthdays. My husband, my two daughters and I moved to Panama in 2014, where we were faced with a lot of challenges as a family. We learned about different cultures and met a lot of wonderful people. After two years of living there we moved to Minnesota where I decided it was time to start baking again and honoring our family’s culture. This is how Paula Sabores Argentinos was born. Today I make homemade Alfajores and other Argentinian sweets. I am excited to continue to share my country’s traditional flavors with everyone today!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a great challenge for me to introduce my products since most of them and their flavors are not familiar to people in Minnesota. It took a lot of trial and error as well as a lot of trying to find new flavors that would compliment the ones I had to offer. Usually, when people come to the farmers market and see our products for the first time they like that we have something different to offer. The farmers market has been one of the best ways of introducing my products to people here in Minnesota!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Paula Sabores Argentinos offers a variety of products inspired in Argentinian baking traditions. From delicately decorated number cakes, to fruit tarts, alfajores, chocolate and meringue cakes and more! We are proud to offer a variety of flavors that are hard to find in Minnesota, hoping to bring a little piece of Argentina to your birthdays, baptisms, anniversaries, and more!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey has been to be flexible. I have learned to listen to my costumers, their ideas, likes and dislikes. I have also learned to change and add new flavors to my recipes to expand what we have to offer. A few years ago we learned how to make our alfajores as well as other products in a gluten free way so that more people could enjoy them!
