Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Bull.
Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began long before I realized Massage Therapy was a thing at a very young age naturally giving feet, hand, scalp, head, neck, and back massages to my family members, I have to chuckle now cause I am 100% sure I have gained a lot more skills. over the years now. It wasn’t until late into my 20’s that I was going to go college for my nursing degree. I started a family at 22 years old with my husband Eric, while he was finishing up his degree I was working part time as a CNA in the nursing home and going to school full time. I don’t know what I was thinking at the time, I was overwhelmed, exhausted, having mental struggles and decided to drop out of the nursing program and focus my time on my family. Well seven years later and two children later my manager told me about an essential oil and wellness company that I discovered the raindrop technique and from there would offer my friends and family to try. In December of 2013 I took the leap again and enrolled in an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Massage Therapy at the Minnesota School of Business. I won’t forget that day. I was so full of emotions and as I had tears rolling down my face that it was time to face my new chapter in life. I am so glad I pushed through! It was a very challenging time and I am beyond ever grateful for all the support I had at the time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
What do you consider a smooth road these days? “Ha….Ha….Ha… I guess it’s a matter of how you as a person want to look at it. Just life in general will always have ups and downs and than to add in being a small business owner in Massage Therapy it has its moments of uncertainty. I worked in few business’s as an employee for the first 3-4 years after graduating. I knew than while I was in college I wanted to be on my own with in 5 years. I accomplished it 4 years! That was a time for me of the extra doubts that come owning your practice. There is more than showing up to work and performing a service. I had to learn the behind scenes and financial side of things.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What you can expect during your session is a place for you to rest, relax, and reset your mind and body. One thing over the years I have learned is we need to give ourselves time, grace, patience and to slow down. We are on the go and before you know it our bodies are screaming at us. My session is custom created to your liking and the way your body responds to my touch. I can incorporate many different techniques, styles, and tools to assist you in feeling your best again. Some of these techniques range from cupping, hot stones, hot bamboo therapy, hot towels, Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage, myofascial release, prenatal massage, craniosacral therapy, healing touch, reflexology. I am always researching and learning more modalities, along with continuing education. What I really enjoy the most with my practice is getting to know each and everyone of my clients in their daily life activities and routines. Just these two alone can tell me a lot of what you’re dealing with. What I am most proud of is my own life struggles and sharing those moments with my clients. I have a huge heart, and have an ability to naturally pick up on a person’s energy the moment they enter my space. of practice. Paying attention, listening and focusing on my session with you and allowing me to guide you into a state of harmony.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I guess I wouldn’t consider luck to have played a role in my business but would say that the clients I have encountered with in the last 5 years, taught me that its important to set time aside for yourself in what ever healthy way that maybe no matter how much time is left in the day. Giving yourself some grace even if time isn’t always on your side. I truly give my entire attention to my client paying close attention to the little details and sighs of relief of letting go of what we can’t control in life.
