Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Schromen.
Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I founded Schromen Law, LLC as a solo attorney back in 2016, working from a small office and a big vision.
Since then, I’ve grown the firm to our current team of four incredible attorneys, practicing out of a beautiful 1886 Victorian in historic Ramsey Hill in St. Paul. Over the years, we’ve evolved our practice to be more holistic—supporting clients not just legally, but also emotionally through life’s transitions—and we’ve made giving back and creating community a core part of what we do.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! It’s been a constant learning curve that has, at times, felt incredibly intimidating.
When I first started, I didn’t have a roadmap—I had to figure things out as I went. A lot of my growth has come from making mistakes and not always making the right or best decision the first time – whether that was in hiring, choosing the right software, or testing out new marketing ideas that didn’t always land. It’s humbling to look back and see how much those missteps have taught me. They pushed me to adapt, to ask for help when I needed it, and to keep refining how I run and grow the firm. Every challenge has made me a better business owner, attorney, and leader.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Schromen Law is a holistic law firm. We focus on estate planning and elder law, but what truly sets us apart is how we practice. Our approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and relationship-driven. We believe legal planning should not only protect your assets, but also support your peace of mind and honor your family’s unique dynamics and values.
Since opening our doors in 2016, we’ve grown into a team of dedicated attorneys who genuinely care about guiding clients through some of life’s most meaningful and challenging moments. We’re known for our compassionate counsel, clear communication, and creating a safe, welcoming space for clients to make difficult decisions with confidence.
Beyond legal work, we’re deeply committed to giving back and building community—through sponsorships, educational events, volunteerism, and supporting causes we care about locally and globally.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud to be known for authenticity, integrity, and client-centered care. Our goal is for every client to feel seen, heard, and supported, and to know they have a trusted partner for life’s transitions—not just a transactional service.
Whether you need a will or trust, help navigating probate, or guidance planning for aging and end-of-life care, our firm is here to walk alongside you with compassion and expertise
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth, both personally and professionally, almost always requires leaning into discomfort. When I started Schromen Law, I thought success would come from having all the right answers and making perfect choices—but in reality, it’s come from staying open to learning, owning my mistakes, and trusting myself even when things felt intimidating or uncertain.
I’ve learned that there’s no single ‘right way’ to build a business—what matters most is leading with integrity, surrounding yourself with the right people, and staying true to your values, even when it’s hard.
If I could sum it up: growth lives on the other side of discomfort, and the best thing you can do is keep showing up, even when you’re scared.
