Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Hayden.
Hi sara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
You have all my old information.
New Stuff
2023 Pulled out of 150 Local grocery stores. It wasn’t a good fit for my product. The margins were just so little it was really hard to make any money. We are now VERY interested in Food Service. We are baking for other Apple Orchards, Cafe’s ( Daily Grind and Green Bridge, Jordon Meat Markets and in the works The Mad Hatter Tea House. It’s a great way to have all of us small business owners supporting each other business.
We just hit our 11 th year of doing weddings and other large catering events. I’m so humbled to think of how many weddings and special days we’ve been a part of. Truly grateful.
We rebranded to Sara’s Bake Shop. We have a beautiful new website created by Supervox. Amazing company to work with. We will always be about the PIE but we do offer many yummy bake goods 6 days a week at our cafe. Fresh Cinnamon and Caramel Pecan rolls every weekend. Fresh donuts Daily and french Pastry. We offer Vegan, Gluten Friendly, and some dairy free options.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say this year has been the hardest for my company. My rent and utilities are high on top of rising food cost. It’s really hard to price things where they need to be. We have amazing customers that love us no matter what.
We are always transparent if we need to raise prices. I think everyone understands. It’s not just in the bakery but at home we all feel it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most proud of this being such a creative outlet for my whole staff.
Creating new flavors for the MN state Fair is always a highlight for my whole staff. We are all invested and make decisions together. We are hitting 10 years this Aug as a vendor at the State Fair. We love every crazy moment there. We hope you all visit us this year in the food building.
What are your plans for the future?
My future dreams and wishes would be to only do the Mn State Fair. Running a cafe has been so amazing and I love our customers but it’s very hard work. I can’t wait to be the customer who supports other local cafes!
