Check Out Kristin Caughey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Caughey.

Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Honestly, Paysen’s Parties started by accident. I was just a mom throwing birthday parties for my daughter — going all out because I loved the creativity, the planning, and seeing her face light up. After a few of those parties, people kept asking, “Can you help me do this for my kid?” or “Where did you get that backdrop?” I started saying yes, one event at a time, and before I knew it, I had a full calendar and a business name.

It’s grown faster than I expected, and I’ve built it around the values that matter most to me: making memories, celebrating kids in meaningful ways, and helping busy moms feel like they can actually enjoy the party without losing their minds in the process. Every detail matters to me because I know how much it means to the people I’m doing it for.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle to navigate for me has been the “slow season.” Graduation season is always INSANE – we did 25 events in 6 weeks this summer. You get used to that speed and then it’s like a brick wall when grad parties are over. We are fortunate enough to have at least a five bookings per month in the slow season, but it’s a dramatic change of pace.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Paysen’s Parties, we’re best known for our custom balloon garlands — it’s what people recognize us for first. But what we really specialize in is kids’ parties. That’s where our heart is. We love creating full experiences that are fun, thoughtful, and age-appropriate, from themed backdrops and balloons to custom touches that make each event feel personal.

What sets me apart is my background. Before this, I worked as a wedding planner and even a wedding DJ, so I don’t just focus on how things look — I’m always thinking about how events flow. I plan around timelines, logistics, and the tiny behind-the-scenes details most people don’t think about until something goes wrong. That perspective helps me take a lot of stress off the families I work with, which is something I’m really proud of. My goal is always to make sure parents can actually enjoy the day with their kids — not just run around putting out fires.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Dave Harmon, the owner of Harmon Entertainment in Fargo, got me into the wedding industry and truly thought me to prepare for every situation possible and then prepare even more. He was essentially the accidental first step into this whole business. I have one client, Kennedy, who books me for every holiday and event in her life and it’s been an honor to see how their lives unfold and evolve as a family. My husband, Landon, is often stuck doing the behind the scenes stuff for me (loading the car, cutting backdrops, carrying supplies into events) and gives up his living room and couch on Vikings game days without complaining. My three best friends (Elly, Jamie, & Asha) are my employees to help fill in the gaps when I can’t be three places in once and it’s been so special to be able to supplement their income AND spend time with them.
