We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jametta Raspberry . Check out our conversation below.
Jametta , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been practicing yoga for almost a year now and I think its finally starting to take fabric in my daily routine! I really enjoy the euphoric feeling of a calm body.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Jametta Raspberry, the executive director of Roots for the Home Team. Roots mission is to collaborate with the community to empower youth in leadership and workforce readiness by offering hands on training at SaladUp carts at the MN Twins and MN United games. This organization is special to me because it provides leverage to young people trying to break into the workforce. During a time when available employment is becoming increasingly competitive and their is stress on schools and families, Roots provides workshops on unlocking young peoples strengths and building confidence with an emphasis on well being. The next generation have an opportunity to impact the conversation around the intersection of food, health and sports while building experience for themselves.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The survivalist in me has fought a good fight. She has managed to defy the odds. Defeat was like a fine sharp blade against her neck and she still pushed through when it was absolutely necessary. Its time for her to rest.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
You always look for help when you feel help less. I was taught to look back and help your fellow neighbor. My suffering has allowed me to feel what it is like. In my success, I am reminded that there is always someone who will look to me for inspiration or advocacy.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
That the more technology disconnects us from each other, the more vulnerable we are to extinction, I cant prove it but it doesnt seem like human kind can keep up with technology. We may want to try to find an off ramp before its too late.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am present in my body and breath. I am able to stop time. I am able to feel what true love feels like, real joy. These moments could happen in silence, listening to music, sitting with my french bulldog Jean Paul Gaultier, enjoying a meal with friends and laughing freely, in the bathroom and right before going to sleep.
