Story & Lesson Highlights with Jade Glasgow of Minneapolis

Jade Glasgow shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Jade, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I would say wandering. I like to let my curiosity lead me, and sometimes that curiosity may lead me down a new fork in the path, or wandering off an a side quest. A straight forward path is an easy route, but it lacks the adventure and excitement of a meandering path with its twists and turns.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am based in Minneapolis, MN, and I dabble in several creative pursuits that bring me joy. Currently these include aerial arts, flow arts, poetry, performance art, and modeling. I love expressing myself through words and through dance, and I definitely identify as a jack of all trades.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I would say shyness. I was a very shy child, and perhaps that trait provided some level of perceived protection when I was young, but I’ve had to let that go. Breaking out of your shell isn’t easy, and I grew up in an area where it didn’t always feel safe to share all of the sides of me. Sharing your art, your words, your voice, and being perceived in general can be scary, but the world needs to hear what you have to say. Finding my voice has definitely been a lifelong journey.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You will find your people. You will find folks who love and celebrate all of your bright, bold, glittery self. There is so much more outside your world, which feels so small right now. Your world will grow and you will blossom. Keep being you.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I do try to show the real me. Obviously, social media is a bit of a highlight reel, but I don’t shy away from the sharing the lows as well as the highs. My feed isn’t hyper curated; it shows the many facets of my life. I post online to share my art and what’s going on in my world, rather than to impress.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I think I may regret not going after opportunities that present themselves to me due to my own self doubt. It is so easy to get in your own head, and in your own way. It is an ongoing journey to try to silence the self doubt and trust in myself.
