

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Lokke.
Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My history is in radio sales and management. I started that career right out of college and quickly climbed the corporate ladder. I started working in sales for 3 stations, then became the sales manager of 1 station, then 3, then abruptly our general manager left, and I was asked to step in and manage the 6 radio stations in Duluth and 6 in Hibbing, MN. I was underqualified but ambitious-so I said yes. I was the youngest General Manager in a rated radio market known at that time. I did that job for a year. I was miserable and drowning. When corporate decided to bring in another GM, they asked me to stay on as the Director of Sales. I declined quickly and resigned, giving a couple months notice to help the new GM get acclimated. I went home that night and signed up for real estate class. I had always had a love for all things real estate. I actually thought I wanted to be an architectural engineer and applied and got accepted to the Milwaukee school of Engineering, but ultimately decided to go to the University of MN Duluth. So real estate was more than just a career choice—it was a natural fit. The first home I bought was a duplex, and that experience opened my eyes to real estate as both a place to live and a smart investment. Combined with my passion for sales and my drive to help people, stepping into this industry felt seamless. That was 20 years ago, and I’ve never looked back. What I love most is guiding people through one of life’s biggest decisions, creating my own success without limits, and enjoying the flexibility and freedom that this career makes possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I started my career in 2005. If you recall, the housing market crashed just a couple years after that. I was just gaining solid ground on my success and had to learn to pivot and become and expert on short sales and foreclosures. Also during that time I was starting a family, having my kids in 2007 and 2009. So I was a hot mess! The struggles of being a new mom with a changing market were hard! It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, but I’m still riding with my arms in the air! Covid presented it owns challenges but 2020 and 2021 ended up being my two best years in the business. Being adaptable, flexible, and always having my client’s needs and interests are my keys to success.

I’ve been a full-time REALTOR® since 2005, and today I lead The Lokke Group at Messina & Associates Real Estate. What I want people to know about my business is simple: everything we do is built on one promise—to be a trusted advisor through every stage of life’s biggest move.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping more than 1,000 clients buy and sell homes, with $219 million in career sales and an average of 50+ closings each year. I live in Hermantown, and my specialty is helping clients in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin—areas like Duluth, Hermantown, Cloquet, Esko, Proctor, and Superior. A big part of my niche is guiding families through the often-tricky “sell before you buy” process so they’re never left without a home. I also love working with first-time buyers and move-up homeowners, especially in the $400K+ range, where strategy, timing, and local expertise really make a difference.

What’s next?
As I look to the future, my focus is on thoughtfully growing The Lokke Group here in Duluth and continuing to raise the bar for what clients can expect from their real estate experience. My goal is to move into the top 1% of REALTORS® in our market, and I feel well positioned to get there. With my kids getting older, I’ve been able to lean even more into my business, and that energy has opened new possibilities.
With the guidance of my real estate coach, Heidi, and the strength of the talented team I’ve built, I believe we’re on a very exciting path. Beyond production goals, I’m committed to expanding the ways we serve clients and deepening our presence in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. There are some big visions on the horizon, and while I’m not ready to share all the details just yet, I can say this: the best chapters for The Lokke Group are still to come.
