Conversations with DaBrownDoll

Today we’d like to introduce you to DaBrownDoll.

Hi DaBrownDoll, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first discovered my passion for rap when I was sitting with my cousins writing a rap together. After we finished, we were given a beat to perform over, and I felt like I naturally took the lead. While everyone else played it off like it wasn’t that serious, I felt something different. I took the rap seriously and decided to publish it on YouTube all at 13 yrs Old , which sparked the beginning of my journey.

As the years went by, my passion only grew. By the time I graduated high school in 2021, I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to music. In 2023, I released my very first official music video for my single Flex Like, and it quickly gained attention, reaching over 16,000 views on YouTube and helping me establish myself as an upcoming artist.

Then in 2025, I dropped RNM, which created a viral buzz in my city, Minneapolis, Minnesota. That moment marked a turning point for me, showing just how far I had come and how much further I’m ready to go in my rap career.

Inspired by artists like Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, I strive to create music that is both powerful and authentic, with a sound that reflects my own voice and vision. My goal is to continue growing as an artist, reaching bigger audiences, and leaving a lasting mark on the rap game while staying true to who I am—DaBrownDoll.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth journey coming up in the music industry. I faced challenges with people not always taking me seriously in the beginning, and there were times it felt like my work was being overlooked. But I stayed focused, kept pushing, and used those setbacks as motivation to grow. Every step, whether easy or hard, shaped me into the artist I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a rap artist who specializes in creating music that’s raw, confident, and true to my story. I’m known for my ability to bring energy and authenticity into my songs, which helps me connect with people who can relate to my journey. One of the things I’m most proud of is the release of my single RNM in 2025 — it created a real buzz in my city and showed me the impact my music can have. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t try to copy anyone else’s style. I take inspiration from artists I look up to, like Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, but I always put my own originality and voice at the center of my work.

What were you like growing up?
“Growing up, I was outgoing and creative — into music, dance, Barbie and Bratz dolls, the Cheetah Girls, and all things cheetah print. I loved watching 106 & Park after school, and artists like Nicki Minaj inspired me to embrace bold colors like pink. Being a 2000s baby, I feel like my generation carried one of the most musical and creative eras after the 90s, and that vibe still lives in me today.”
