Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Koethe.
Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Amanda Koethe. I am a light worker at heart, providing various forms of bodywork in order to meet my client’s specific needs. I have a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology, and an Associate degree in Exercise Science. I am a licensed Occupational Therapist, Massage Therapist, Watsu Practitioner, and Reiki Practitioner. I am also trained in Aquatic Integration, Healing Dance and Shiatsu.
I started my career out working in Aquatics and Fitness as a personal trainer for people with disabilities and then found Watsu, aquatic bodywork using Zen Shiatsu principles in a warm water pool. I fell in love with this modality, and I’ve trained in it over the last 15 years. My passion for helping those with disabilities transformed into obtaining a master’s in occupational therapy, working in hospital and rehab settings.
I then trained to become a massage therapist and Reiki practitioner as a side gig to earn some extra cash. I had no idea that I would fall in love with this work and create ARK Healing as a result. I now incorporate land, aquatic, and energetic body work, also using occupational therapy techniques to treat my clients mind, body, and spirit encouraging wellness and balance both physically and energetically.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly the stars aligned so perfectly throughout the course of this journey. Timing and funding landed into place as each new adventure presented itself with all of the trainings and education. It could not have been more perfect and meant to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most passionate about my aquatic body work. I m a certified Watsu practitioner with training in Aquatic Integration, Healing Dance, and Zen Shiatsu. This work takes place in a warm water pool where the recipient is held and supported while the meridians are stretched and manipulated in a gentle relaxing way. Most recipients describe this as a magical, ethereal, womb like experience which provides physical and emotional healing.
I also perform Reiki energy sessions. I’m a level 2 Reiki practitioner I specialize in Chakra clearing to help the recipient identify any areas of struggle and pass along any messages received to help them overcome these barriers.
As a massage therapist, my favorite is deep tissue massage using occupational therapy training to identify areas of constriction, opening those up and stretching to alleviate tension and restriction.
I also work as a home health occupational therapist I love my job treating my patients in their own environment to encourage Independence and safety.
