Today we’d like to introduce you to Synnove Nieuwenhuis.
Hi Synnove, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Jonas Center began as a vision of Jim and Lisa Jonas who believe all people from children, families, to adults should have the opportunity to obtain safe, confidential, and respectful mental health services. In 2005, The Jonas Center was created from the pair along with a group of therapists with a variety of backgrounds and specialties. The Jonas Center currently has 3 office locations in Glencoe, Cologne, and Eden Prairie, along with serving those all across Minnesota through Telehealth services.
Most recently in September of 2025, Christine Paulson and Synnove Nieuwenhuis, also therapists at The Jonas Center, have become part owners of the counseling clinic. Together this new team is excited for the future of The Jonas Center and how we can continue to improve and provide top quality mental health services and educational resources for providers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Jonas Center continues to be widely known in the Southwest Metro for their mental
health services. There have been times of struggles regarding changes to the healthcare system, especially at the beginning of COVID when we had to pivot to providing 100% Telehealth. Our commitment then and now is making sure we do our best to continue providing services for all of those in need. We have persevered like many small businesses and are proud to be on 20 years of providing care.
We’ve been impressed with The Jonas Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Jonas Center provides a variety of mental health services including individual, children, couples, and family therapy. In addition, some of our therapists have certifications and training in EMDR therapy, Brain Spotting, Play Therapy, Internal Family Systems, specialize in trauma work, abuse, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and more. The Jonas Center also provides supervision for those seeking licensure in their field of study.
All of our therapists maintain the highest of standards of their licensure, keeping up to date with latest continuing education, and seeking out consultation to provide top quality care of our clients.
The Jonas Center provides opportunities for professional development with CEU trainings.
The Jonas Center was also given the “Best of Glencoe Area Award 2025” for counseling services.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking risks is part of change and change is inevitable. The Jonas Center has come a long way since it’s beginning in 2005. From opening up additional offices that didn’t always sustain, to adding new therapists, adapting to new ways to provide therapy through COVID, and most recently adding new partners to the business. If we as a counseling service don’t take risks to continue to grow and improve, how can we expect our clients to take risks as well in their own lives. Showing that you can overcome risk and take control of our decisions and outcomes, we believe we can inspire those to take risks on themselves. Everyone deserves a change and to know we all go through it, but we don’t have to do it alone.
