Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Marie.
Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The path to becoming who I am today as an author, healer, psychic, and teacher began long before I realized. Growing up on a dairy farm in small town Minnesota, I knew I was different or at least that I saw the world and the people in it a bit differently. Highly spiritual, connected to my safe spaces of nature and church, while also being quite curious and academically inclined led to a childhood of feeling disconnected from “normal” society and people. I asked too many questions that were deemed too adult, told frequently that I was a kid just go play. After being dismissed enough times, I became quiet and focused on blending in to the background. In doing so, my observation skills were heightened and I discovered I could figure out ways to help my peers understand new skills without making them feel stupid. This stuck with me through all of the challenges of the first 20 years of life including periods of deep depression, social anxiety, and physical health struggles; and led me to getting a bachelors degree in early childhood education.
After college, I was offered an opportunity to have an adventure in LA – one that lasted six years. I worked in the private tutoring industry and was fortunate to meet a wide variety of people and stretch outside my comfort zone. LA is where my Bundy Lane, my healing path to restore balance in my life, became much more intentional. You see, a college professor had written a note next to my name on an attendance sheet and it got stuck in my head, “plain and heavy set”. It bothered me that of all the attributes I exhibited, he chose to remember me as plain and heavy set. Being in LA and away from home, I decided to make the most of opportunities available to me and was committed to no one ever seeing me as my professor had because that had never been how I had seen myself. I also needed to deal with being very introverted and having low self-esteem which I did by forcing myself to take jobs that required talking on the phone all day as well as saying yes to invites to social gatherings, especially when it made me uncomfortable. I adopted a mentality of, “What’s the worst case scenario?”, and if I could be ok with the worst case, I’d give it a go. I am very glad I did. By the end of my time in LA, I had been able to work with a personal trainer who was also quite spiritual so I got to chat about spiritual topics while being put through my paces and had a group of friends that made me feel like being me wasn’t a bad thing at all. Those six years helped me feel comfortable and healthy physically, mentally, and socially.
Upon returning to Minnesota, I fell in love in a bit of a whirlwind romance only to have him die unexpectedly. This was the catalyst for re-opening me up energetically. Grief is a powerful experience. For me, the week after the death, I can honestly say I have never felt as much love or as much pain in my life. Looking back, I understand that when the brain doesn’t have enough data to make sense of a situation it opens up to any information source it has ever had access to, including the energetic senses. Yet, without remembering or knowing how to make sense of that information it created this feeling of bombardment and fear. I thought back to different tools I had acquired throughout my life like simple meditations, prayers, as well as utilizing the internet. Things that felt good inside when I thought of them, I practiced. There was plenty I read about that felt off so I trusted that feeling and found a few inexpensive ways to calm down the energy and general weirdness in my life. After a couple of years of isolation while figuring this new reality out, I found myself feeling out of balance in my physical life . I felt I needed change, but I was not sure what that should be or how to do it. So, it was suggested I try a session with a psychic medium… my first. What did I have to lose? I booked a session and after it was done, the gentle perspective shift suggested was exactly what I needed to move forward. I recall thinking, if I could help someone the way she helped me, I wanted to. First, I needed to get back to good on all levels.
My focus shifted to my physical and energetic health; with a desire to ultimately use the knowledge I was gathering on my healing path to help others. I started with an acupuncturist to help clear any energetic blocks, thinking it could help amplify my physical workouts. I was then referred to a holistic health practitioner who, with a combination of ion cleanse footbaths and nutritional/supplement programs plus guidance in emotional healing and release, helped me to feel overall well (including reducing my weight to a healthy, maintainable level). Much of the excess weight I was carrying had an emotional tie, once I processed that and gave my body what it needed to feel safe to let go my pant sized dropped fast. That was an 18 month process and I now have all those tools and that resource to reach out to when needed. After I achieved my goal of being well, I felt ready to learn about my intuition as well as my energetic senses and how I might best be able to utilize them to be a part of other people’s healing process.
In 2018, I took classes on spiritual and psychic development where I discovered I was capable of most things. Meeting my spirit guides early on in the classes who proceeded to give me a crash course in each week’s topic. I determined that I most enjoyed the psychic and healing aspects. I began offering psychic sessions shortly after the classes and was guided to learn more about Akashic Records and hands on healing. With continued practice and openness to learning new techniques and philosophies, I blended my strengths to become my healing + insight sessions. The focus being on how best to help people in their healing process; healing themselves with a community of support. Whether going through treatment of illness or disease, physical pain, moving through their own grieving process, or needing support through a transition in life – I’m there to help.
Also, during the time of becoming more confident in my intuition and abilities, I felt called to write yet I didn’t know what until I heard a question asked on a podcast, “How do I teach my child to trust their intuition?” It got me thinking of all the times growing up that if I had understood what that feeling was inside, it could have helped me in so many different situations. Having trained as a teacher, my mind went to work on making the concept simple and practical. I’m big on practical application of knowledge. The result is my children’s book series “Listen to Your Tummy”, the first book is out now “Evie Listens” and the second book is being illustrated as we speak. We all need to trust our body, mind, and energy more so we can make the best decisions possible for ourselves, especially when it comes to our health. The earlier we learn to make the connections, the better. Intuition is an essential guiding force in our lives. Bringing the books into classes and creating fun, educational opportunities for all ages is a passion that I look forward to sharing as the series continues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Occasionally, when I fully trusted my intuition and in divine timing. Of course, there are bouts of self-doubt and the struggle of blending my analytical/logical mind with the energetic side of things. There is often this assumption that because I do energy work that I am no longer interested in academics especially science and that’s simply not true. I like learning about all sorts of things and without exposing my brain to new information, I limit my ability to grow and to use my intuition to the full extent. The more I experience on all levels, the smoother the road gets and the self-doubt lessens as my network of support grows. There have been so many times in my life that I’ve hidden myself away during my healing, where life and the people in it sort of drift by thereby requiring a bit of a new start. Gaining new support for who I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Everyone has a healing path, restoring and maintaining life balance. I refer to mine as Bundy Lane. Bundy being the name of the street I lived on for most of my time in LA as well as the nickname of my boyfriend who passed away. Now, also the name of the street the family lives on in my children’s book series. It encompasses twenty years of restoration work in my life (mental, emotional, social, energetic, and physical) and now, happily in the maintenance portion. With the healing tools and techniques I’ve acquired along the way plus a network of other practitioners to help, I share healing support wherever a client is on their own path – be it in the maintenance of balance or the restoration – offering healing + insight sessions, writing, classes, and events.
Sessions: A resounding message throughout my energy healing education was, “Heal yourself first then others…”, and I listened. When you have a session with me, it is coming from a space of balance, understanding, and compassion. Sessions begin with energy healing to ground, balance, pain relief (if needed), and help to receive more clearly the psychic insight that follows. The overall goal of sessions being to help you feel balanced, present, and trusting in yourself to move through life with confidence and more ease. I offer virtual 30 min sessions as well as 1-1.5 hour in person sessions.
Books & Classes: In restoring and maintaining balance, trusting your intuition is essential. This is why I’ve created the “Listen to Your Tummy” series as a teaching tool for children and their adults. I’m excited to begin sharing the books in classrooms as well as creating classes for parents, caregivers, and educators that helps them nurture intuition in their daily lives. There is also a Practical Intuition class for adults focused on trusting and utilizing their intuition in every day life.
Events: I’m also excited to be creating events that are meant to be as much a social gathering as they are an opportunity to meet different practitioners and get to sample what they do and how it might helpful in the future. There is so much in the world that if you don’t know it exists, you don’t know it’s an option or what you’re missing out on. Take what fits and leave the rest, but at the very least give things a try IF your intuition gives a “yes” to. 😉
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risks are necessary to move forward and if you know how to listen to your intuition, it’s a little easier to leap. In my life, it was a huge risk moving out to LA and a risk to move back to Minnesota, not knowing how I would fit in having had a drastically different lifestyle for years (in both cases). But, I trusted things would work out and there would be valuable lessons learned. With regards to getting to where I am career wise, any time you create something like a book or have a vision for a business and then make the decision to make it a reality, it’s a risk. No matter how much you believe in something, you never quite know how it’s going to be received. Yet, in my experience it feels worse to never know what it could have been. Yes, taking a risk can result in a perceived failure, but it can also be a great success that others look to for inspiration. Nowadays, when something feels risky and uncomfortable I go back to, “What’s the worst case scenario?”, and if I can deal with it then I check with my intuition if it’s for my highest good. More often than not, stepping outside the comfort zone is worth it.
