Exploring Life & Business with Rachel Traxler of Rachel Traxler Photograpgy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Traxler.

Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I worked in the cancer center at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, so I worked in the medical field before I went full-time in photography. My disease group was GYN, so gynecology and I worked with women with ovarian cancer, and I was picking out which chemotherapy regimens would be best for them based on their prior treatment.

I worked in a windowless office following protocol, and I am an Enneagram Type 7. So I just found that I did not thrive in that environment, and I really needed, like, spontaneous adventure and needed to just be on the go and doing different things. Being in a windowless office following protocol was not for me. My husband told me to make the leap to go full-time photography, and I did, and I never looked back, and I actually never wanted to become a full-time photographer and had the intent of going part time only.

So when I did decide to go full-time, I only had three weddings booked, and then the next year I had 33.
So I went from three to 33 weddings booked.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I didn’t have a plan B when I went full-time, so I didn’t have a backup plan. I just had to kind of make it work, which is why I think I made it work and actually the reason why I feel like I’m good at what I’m good at. It is the reason I have found my area of specialty is because I was not good at it at first.

I wasn’t good at having workflows and clients. My experiences and all that stuff so much so that I stripped it down and I built mine from scratch, and then it kind of became my specialty and what I’m known for and what I’m good at.
My area of weakness turned into my area of specialty because I had to work at it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in weddings and I’m known for having a warm, inviting, bubbly, connective, experience and personality.
I am known for, like, serving my clients in that way. I have also pulled that over into coaching other photographers to do the same.
I think this is what sets me apart from others, I think, is how I serve them. I serve them first in their wedding experience and then also in other photographers helping other photographers with their business.

What matters most to you?
I want to continue to serve other photographers’ businesses and, help the wedding industry become more positive

Hopefully that’s enough. Let’s see. Image credits would always be me. Hopefully that’s all that you need. Let me know if you need more, though.
