Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Otomo.
Hi Logan , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started with towing back in 2020 during the pandemic. I wasn’t happy with the career path i was on and i wanted to do something different. I started working for my grandpa when i was 15 years old. My grandpa owned his own engineering firm and i would help out in the field and would work on autocadd projects. My grandpa was planning to retire so i then went and worked for another private engineering firm out of rochester, mn and worked their for almost 6 years before i decided to move onto something different. I slowing got into towing with junking and scrapping vehicles on the side while i was working my full time job with just a truck and trailer. Then i decided to invest into it a little more and went and bought a rollback tow truck. I really liked it and i decided i was going to run with it and that’s when i decided to quit my full time job and start doing roadside service calls and towing. I ran with a rollback for about a year in a half and then decided it was time to buy a light duty wrecker. I started the business out of my 30×30 shop at my house in the country. I ran the business for about 2 years out at my house and decided it was time to invest in a commercial property in the town of Austin, MN so that i could be in the public eye and get my business even more noticed. I found a commercial property with a great location and decided it was the new home for Otomo’s Auto Towing. We moved into a building that was a 120’x210′ shop. Once we were in the building i wanted to do more then just towing i wanted to be able to help customers even more and offer to fix their vehicles and make Otomo’s a place they could trust and make sure they were in good hands throughout their whole experience, so that’s when i thought of doing repair as well. I had a great relationship with a mechanic at another auto shop and offered him a job to come work for me and he accepted it. I built a relationship with this mechanic over the year because he was working on vehicles i sent over to his auto shop and i trusted his word and i knew that he would be honest and fair to our customers and that is exactly what he is. He has the same goal as i do and it is to help people and make sure they’re taken care of and happy. That is my entire motive when i look into hire someone new. They have to want to help people and take pride in what they do. It is true what they say, if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life and i am doing just that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning your own business is not for the mentally weak, you have to be a strong patient individual. Owning your own business is a roller-coaster. There are alot of highs and alot of lows. You just have to prepare yourself for those lows and work through them. I am a person that doesn’t give up easily, when i see something and i want it i go after it and i don’t stop until i have it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for helping others, i was always someone that just couldn’t stand around and watch other people work, I have to help. What sets me apart from other people is that i don’t just look at it as making money or running a business. Sometimes people need that break in life and that’s what i enjoy most is being able to make a persons day or have a impact in their life in someway shape or form
