Hi Steven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
To keep my head on a swivel, I stay active — I recently ran the Grandma’s Full Marathon and have competed in triathlons, which keep me sharp both mentally and physically. I’ve found that pushing myself in fitness often parallels the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship: discipline, endurance, and a willingness to keep moving forward no matter what.
I grew up in South Minneapolis, but my dream was always to live in northern Minnesota. There’s something special about the sense of community, the outdoors, and the pace of life up here that just felt right to me — and I knew someday I wanted to build a life and business rooted in that environment.
My story really comes down to people — connecting them, helping them grow, and building things that bring them together. I started my career in recruiting, where I discovered how rewarding it was to match great talent with the right opportunities. That passion eventually inspired me to launch Talent Business Solutions LLC, a company built around helping both businesses and individuals reach their full potential.
As my work grew, so did my love for community. I began creating local groups like Iron Range Pickleball and Iron Range Adventures, focused on getting people active, outdoors, and connected. What started as small meetups turned into thriving communities filled with energy, laughter, and new friendships.
It’s been a journey fueled by purpose — blending business, passion, and people — and I feel grateful every day to live in a place I love while building something that makes a positive impact both professionally and locally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s where most of the growth happens. Starting a business from scratch and building community programs at the same time came with plenty of challenges — from financial uncertainty and long hours to moments of doubt about whether it would all come together.
There were times when I had to learn the hard way about balance — how to manage multiple projects, stay motivated, and keep my vision clear even when things felt overwhelming. But every obstacle taught me something valuable about perseverance, leadership, and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people.
Looking back, those tough moments were the foundation for everything that’s working today. They made me more adaptable, more patient, and more grateful for the wins — big or small.
