Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Ludwig.
Hi Katie , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry and for helping people feel their best. After graduating from Regency Beauty Institute in May 2011, I started my career at In Styles Salon the following month. I spent several years there learning from great mentors, building relationships with my clients, and really finding my style as a hairstylist.
In early 2017, I had my daughter, Abigail, which was such a special time in my life. I wanted to have a little more flexible schedule to be able to spend as much time with her as I could. In April 2017, I decided to take the leap and start renting a chair at Polished Looks Hair Salon.
Over the years, I built such strong connections with my clients and my coworkers at Polished Looks. I always admired the owner and the business she had built. She created such a welcoming and professional environment. So when the opportunity came up to buy the salon after she had owned it for 13 years, it felt like the right next step. In September 2024, I officially became the owner of Polished Looks Hair Salon.
It’s been an amazing journey — from beauty school to working behind the chair, to now owning the salon I’ve called home for so long. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m excited to continue growing, learning, and creating a space where people feel confident and cared for every time they walk through the door.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a salon while being a mom of four soon to be five is definitely a juggling act. There are days I feel stretched thin trying to balance clients, staff, and all the behind-the-scenes parts of running a business, while also being there for my kids. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. My kids are my motivation. They get to see me work hard and do something I love. Some days are chaotic, but I wouldn’t trade it. It’s taught me patience, balance, and to give myself grace on the hard days.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been a hairstylist for almost 15 years, and I truly love what I do. I specialize in blonding services. Everything from bright, dimensional highlights to soft, natural balayage. I also enjoy creating beautiful, everyday color and texturized haircuts that fit each client’s lifestyle.
What I’m probably most known for is making people feel comfortable and confident in my chair. I take time to really listen and make sure each client leaves loving their hair. If I don’t think they’ll love it when they leave I’ll give them other options that I think would work better for them. In the end I will always do whatever the client wants but I want them to absolutely love it when they leave.
I’m also really proud of how far I’ve come in this industry. From starting out right after beauty school to now owning Polished Looks Hair Salon, it’s been such a rewarding journey. I never stop learning. I love keeping up with new trends, techniques, and color formulas so my clients always get the best, most current styles.
What sets me apart is my genuine passion for people. For me, it’s not just about the hair it’s about the connection, the trust, and helping someone walk out the door feeling their absolute best.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Honestly, with four kids, expecting our 5th and a busy salon, I don’t have much time to sit down with books or listen to podcasts. Most of my inspiration comes from quick moments throughout the day like scrolling through Instagram. I love finding little pieces of creativity or motivation there, whether it’s from other stylists, new color techniques, or just something uplifting that brightens my day. I follow quite a few different stylists and industry pages, and I enjoy taking bits and pieces from each one to spark new ideas and keep my creativity fresh.
