Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Fox.
Hi Jen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Spiral brewery is a women-owned, women-operated, women-brewed, micro, self distributed craft brewery. Back in 2012, my brother, sister-in-law, and I were drinking Minnesota craft beer discussing how much we adore our hometown of Hastings, MN. And the conversation quickly turned into a conversation about how much our sweet city would benefit from a third space like a locally owned taproom. We also decided we could open one; within one minute we knew where we would be located and that we call our space Spiral Brewery! After a year of joking around, we got serious and wrote a business plan, secured community and bank financing, and continued to build our dream. At that point we re-connected with two friends from our college days and they became our production partners and our original brewer. We ultimately opened our front door in 2018.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! Small business is complex, emotional, and deeply personal. We are a family owned business, which adds some levels of all of those aspects. One of our greatest struggles has been battling through the male dominated industry as female owners and operators. Another struggle is the perception that we must be very successful because our taproom was busy ONE time and a subsequent lack of local/regional support for our brand and our taproom.

We distribute our beer ourselves to over 250 bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and event venues.
