Today we’d like to introduce you to Tai Miller.
Hi Tai , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, however. My family and I were living in New Orleans because my husband was offered a position with the Navy as a computer programmer. During that time, I was a homemaker with four children. Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 changed everything. We relocated back to Ohio during the storm and stayed with family. Two days after the storm, I was informed that our home was destroyed. We spent years putting our lives back together. My husband unexpectedly passed away in 2009. I knew it was up to me to raise my four children alone with little income. It was a blessing to be back home with family, who helped us through the most difficult time in our lives. I decided to go back to school, and although it was very challenging raising four little ones on my own, working two jobs, and being in school, I knew it had to be done so I could provide a life that my children deserved. I have always known I wanted to study psychology from the first day of classes.
I completed my Associate Degree in Psychology and immediately began my Bachelor’s Degree Program in Clinical Psychology. After completing my Bachelor’s Degree, I took some time off to work and think about how I wanted to use my degree. I knew I wanted a career that would allow me to build relationships with people and help others persevere through difficult times, like the ones my children experienced. I was driven to teach others that hard times never last and there is a blessing on the other side of every loss or tragedy we experience. I returned to school and completed my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I graduated from Capella University in 2018 and I am currently pursuing my PhD in psychology. This career has taken me on a fantastic journey and has allowed me to work with some of the most amazing therapists in the area.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life as we know it can be a struggle. I remember when I started my degree, it wasn’t easy because life will always attempt to distract an individual from the goal. It takes a lot to move distractions out of the way and to keep pursuing a desire so intense that I wanted to educate myself to help others. It is so important to have a “WHY,” especially to give you a boost over those distractions and difficult life events. During this journey, I experienced many losses and made many sacrifices to build a good life for my children. I knew I was not on this journey alone, and I knew there was always a purpose to the pain. I was raised on strong Christian values and morals instilled in me by my grandparents and my parents, from childhood through adulthood. Given my beliefs and values, it was never the kind of struggle most people experience, because I have a wonderful church and friends who provide so much love and support. Even in this field, I have learned that not everyone is willing to see you succeed in life, and even those you have worked for in the past, or people who call you “friend”, will attempt to drag you down into the cesspool they are accustomed to, however, for me, it is my faith in God that gets me through any struggle, broken relationship, job loss, or financial crisis.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am currently practicing as a clinical therapist. I am also working for two other Clinics, Genuine Therapy Centers, and Aspiria Therapy.. I have been with Genuine Therapy for four years and Aspiria Therapy for three years. I am one of the co-founders of Aspiria and the founder of Divine Innovation Therapy, LLC. Divine is the one thing I have created that I am most proud of. I was so nervous about stepping into my own practice; however, it has been just the most fantastic experience. I specialize in working with children on the autism spectrum and their parents, providing skills for the child. I also teach the parents specific parenting skills they can utilize with their children at home and in the community. I also offer marital and couples counseling, family counseling, and individual counseling. I work with a wide range of individuals ages 5-65. I am also very passionate about psychological evaluations and ADHD testing for adults and children. I know that many individuals are struggling with finding the care they need, and I know many facilities in the area are booked out for several months, however, I do have appointments available, and if you are struggling, it would be an honor to serve you (all insurance is accepted, and a sliding fee scale is available if you do not have insurance). I believe the most exciting part of my business is the recognition I have received from the city of Anoka over the past 3 years as a new business owner. An even greater reward for me personally is seeing the growth and progress each one of my clients makes week to week and month to month. That is a feeling I cannot even put into words.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do not believe in “luck”, but I do believe in blessings. I think if your heart is genuinely in the proper posture, many blessings will follow you, even chase you down. However, it is essential to remember how I react to those obstacles. Most things need to be handled with grace and mercy for others. I personally have to remember spiritually that if I am not willing to show grace to others, there is no grace for me. I have learned that although bad things happen, and bad people have also come into my life. I know that all things work out for me because of who I put my trust in, and that is my faith as a Christian. The grace and mercy God has shown me is the same grace and mercy that needs to be reflected in others. What is essential to understand is that although people have their own intentions when we learn those intentions are not best for us, it is time to walk away. It doesn’t take long for people to show you who they truly are. It is more about treating others the way you desire to be treated, and if they are incapable of doing that, then walk away. Overall, my business and the businesses I work for are also richly blessed with wonderful therapist who go the extra mile to enrich the lives of others. It is wonderful having the opportunity to work with clients that are seeking a better life financially, emotionally, and spiritually.
