Meet Moody Arafa of Cahill Diner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moody Arafa.

Hi Moody, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife and I started Cahill Diner back in April of 2009. When we decided to take it over, it was on the brink of closing and needed a lot of work. With over 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, my wife Zeze and I were ready to create something of our own. Zeze left her job, and together we took a leap of faith and purchased Cahill Diner.

We’ve always had a passion for diners, homemade meals, and bringing the community together. Taking over Cahill Diner was a true challenge — we had to rebuild everything from the ground up. But with hard work, determination, and the incredible support of the Inver Grove Heights community, Cahill Diner became a beloved staple of the town.

Today, we’re proud to still own Cahill Diner. It means so much to us because it’s where our journey began. Without Cahill Diner, our sister restaurant, Ze’s Diner, would have never been born. We have since grown to six locations and look forward to continuing to grow our company.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout the years, we faced our share of challenges. In the beginning, it was difficult to bring customers in simply because many people didn’t know about us. But with great customer service and quality food, word began to spread, and people kept coming back again and again.

Another major challenge was the COVID pandemic. Like many small businesses, we struggled, but we are incredibly grateful that we were able to survive and come out stronger. Today, we are thankful for every year we continue to serve our community.

We’ve been impressed with Cahill Diner, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cahill Diner is a fun, retro 1950s-style diner that has been welcoming families and community members since 2009. We take great pride in serving the Inver Grove Heights community and love supporting it in any way we can. Our roots run deep here, and we’re truly proud to be part of such a wonderful city and its amazing people.

We specialize in classic American comfort food served with a warm, welcoming, “1950s diner” vibe. From hearty breakfasts and hand-crafted burgers, homemade strawberry rhubarb jam, to creamy milkshakes and homemade comfort meals, every dish is made fresh with quality ingredients and care.
Our motto — “It’s Never Too Late for Breakfast” — reflects what our guests love most: being able to enjoy their favorite breakfast all day long.

What truly sets us apart is our commitment to community and family. Every diner we open becomes part of the neighborhood it serves. We host school fundraisers, give-back nights, and community events to support local causes and families. Our guests aren’t just customers — they’re part of the Cahill Diner family.
We also take pride in our retro décor, friendly staff, and nostalgic atmosphere, creating a place where everyone feels at home.

We’re most proud of how far we’ve come — from saving one struggling diner to building a Minnesota-loved brand known for heart, hospitality, and consistency. Cahill Diner will always hold a special place in our hearts as where it all began, and Ze’s Diner continues that same tradition of family, flavor, and fun.

At Cahill Diner, we believe food brings people together. We invite everyone to stop by for a hot breakfast, a juicy burger, or a friendly chat over coffee. Whether you’re a first-time guest or a regular, we’re here to serve you with a smile — because for us, every meal is about community, comfort, and connection.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Never wait for the “perfect” moment. Starting a business takes courage and a leap of faith. Put your heart into it, work hard every single day, and stay committed. When you give your all, success will follow and the outcome will be worth every effort.
