Rising Stars: Meet Will Maravelas of Minneapolis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Maravelas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
14:59 Studios started as a labor of love to mainly record my personal music. I have been active in the original music scene for several decades, playing in several bands. I am currently playing in Wormholedeath artists Plague of Stars, Death metal band Caustic Abyss and My Kingdom Music artists Chalice of Suffering. I have been in tons of others as well.
The goal with the studio was to have a place to create and work on my own music and record some friends. It has since turned into a full time job, recording and making music for others. I have to schedule time to record my own music these days.
I started this studio with a good friend Zach, who is no longer involved in the studio; but he continues to play music in his band Burden of the Wretched and we remain very close friends.
It’s funny to me that something we started to record our own music has grown so much!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh struggles for sure. I moved to my new location right before covid hit but I managed to stay busy and the rehearsal side of my business remained active keeping things moving. I didn’t really start making anything monetarily until a couple years ago. I often tell my friends and clients I was just to stubborn to quit. It is paying off, but it always paid off in terms of creativity and happiness. Music doesn’t make anyone rich, but it certainly makes me happy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been recording music on a professional level for 20 years at this point. I started out at Actual Sound Studios in LaCrosse before relocating to the twin cities. I worked with Bimanic studios for several years before opening 14:59 Studios in 2010 (give or take).
As an avid fan of all things heavy, the studio kind of gave itself an identity by recording the loud and proud. Punk, Metal, Thrash, Black Metal, Doom….and a lot of great rock and alternative stuff as well. I am most proud of the fact that I kept going. I have to be over 1000 recording sessions at this juncture between singles, eps, albums, vinyls, cds, tapes….there have just been so many songs that I can point to and say….I helped create that. That is very cool, and I consider myself lucky that people trust me with their music.
