Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Tanya Johnson and I am a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, Group Fitness Instructor, Lifestyle & Career Coach with over 26 years in corporate leadership positions dedicated to helping my clients meet their professional, fitness, health and/or wellness goals.
My story begins with a 7-year old little girl put into a program designed around nutritional habits to lose weight. I would pose sideways for pictures on the first day of the program and the last day of the program to show the results of what was accomplished by slimming up my mid-section.
Throughout my life, I have faced the ups and downs many of us go through during our health and wellness journey. I focused on nutrition and exercise as the core of what I saw as being healthy. If you ate this, that was good; and if you ate that, that was bad. It wasn’t until 2018 when I was diagnosed with hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes, I would embark on my own health and wellness journey embracing both physical and mental support. It was at this point, I realized there was so much more in maintaining a healthy well-being.
I created FITMBS (FIT Mind•Body•Soul) to coach clients that good health is not all about what we eat or how much we exercise; but rather, how we live our lives on a daily basis. As we go through our life cycles, we are faced with more and more challenges that can impact sleep, nutrition, exercise, energy and stress levels, and more. With the internet, we are consumed with an enormous amount of information at our fingertips – it can sometimes cause confusion through its contradictions. We make choices based on our experiences, research and what we have learned along the way, but at times it can be a struggle and sometimes overwhelming. It can be challenging to navigate through the changes we know we need to make. What is right for one person may not be right for the other person.
I partner with my clients to understand their story and work alongside them to take small steps toward sustainable change. Change does not happen overnight, but rather over time with dedication, focus and consistency. If things are not working, we take a different direction until it’s no longer work, but rather, a lifestyle that works for them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I laughed as I read this question as this was definitely not a smooth road. I would even state that it was like riding your bike down a steep and narrow mountain praying not to fall along the way. There were times I fell hard and it would take me a little longer to get back up and ride again, but at the end, I was able to make it to the bottom of that mountain. I would even say that my journey is still not done, as there are other mountains to conquer along the way, but this time I am better prepared.
Some of the challenges I faced was creating a new identity that I had masked for so long and trusting in the new identity that I was better than the masked version of myself. Tapping into my feelings was definitely not easy and when you add peri-menopause into the mix, let’s just say it was not a pretty sight. I made choices along the way that I felt were mistakes, but looking back at them, they were my biggest learnings to help me heal from my past traumas and cope through changes that were happening in the present state.
Change is never easy. It takes a lot of hard work, trust, and ability to motivate yourself through the hardest challenges, but if you have the resilience to keep going, you come out on the other side stronger than ever.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about FITMBS LLC?
FITMBS® is a holistic health and wellness business. I offer personal training, group fitness classes, lifestyle and career coaching services.
I assist participants/clients through personal and professional changes. Sometimes the changes can be trying a new fitness class and meeting new people; others might want to feel and look healthier; some people are looking to enhance energy levels, others may look to develop professional skillsets for their next career, etc. What I love most about what I do is that every one of my clients/participants are unique. The Dance and Drumming classes are choreographed by me, so the participants receive a unique experience with my style of teaching. My individualized and partner programs are never the same as there is not one person who is an identical replica of themselves.
We are all unique in our own way which sets all of us apart from one another. I believe what sets me apart from others in my field is that I have over 26 years of corporate leadership experience of which was most recently an Executive Director for a Fortune 5 Company and previous to that a Vice President of Business Development. I am known for resonating with people who have a high level of demand whether personal or business while trying to fit in and maintain their health and wellness goals.
I am proud that I have the opportunity to take the learnings from my personal health and wellness journey and share them with others to find their own paths to personal freedom.
