Today we’d like to introduce you to Ananda Peterson.
Ananda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey really began in 2022, when I officially opened and started offering music lessons. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the Twin Cities, where I took music lessons from a local teacher who had a huge impact on me. Those early lessons sparked my love for rhythm and performance, and that led me to join drumline, which I stayed involved in throughout high school.
When I began teaching in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, I realized how much I enjoyed helping students discover their own talents and confidence. Working across different communities gave me a deeper understanding of how to meet each student where they are and bring out the best in them.
By 2022, I knew it was time to build something of my own — a space where students could feel supported, inspired, and challenged in all the right ways. Every step of the journey has shaped the teacher I am today, and I’m grateful for the chance to pass on the same passion and guidance that was once given to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Not exactly. Life, family, and moving have all played major roles in my journey. Balancing personal responsibilities while trying to build something meaningful hasn’t always been easy. There were times when relocating meant starting over in new places, rebuilding connections, and proving myself again. Juggling family life with the demands of teaching, scheduling, marketing locally and staying committed to my students required resilience and a lot of readjusting.
But every challenge pushed me to grow — as a teacher, a parent, and a person. Those experiences strengthened my purpose and made me even more dedicated to creating a welcoming, encouraging space for students. Even with the ups and downs, the journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful that it brought me to where I am today
