Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Schotzko.
Hi Tammy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I became a professional organizer in 2009, I quickly learned that the job is about far more than decluttering. It involves understanding *why* we keep the things we keep—what our homes say about who we are, what we’ve been through, and where we’re going. Every drawer, closet, and box holds a story. My role is to hold space, helping people gently sort through those stories, reclaiming their space and time, and creating a home or work environment that supports their well-being. It’s an honor to hold that space with clients, whether in person or virtually, as they make decisions, process emotions, and move toward the life they want.
In 2022, I expanded that mission by becoming a realtor—another way of helping people find the space that feels right for them. Homes aren’t just buildings; they’re places for new beginnings. Guiding someone through the transitions of life is one of the most rewarding experiences I know.
Along the way, I also became a mobile notary, often visiting the ICU and assisted livings to help people get their affairs in order at difficult times in their lives, and a wedding officiant. Each role may look different on the surface, but at their core, they’re all people-centered, service-based ways of supporting life’s most meaningful moments.
Whether I’m organizing a home, helping someone buy or sell one, notarizing a document, or standing with a couple as they say “I do,” my purpose remains the same: **I help make a house a home—and help people feel at home in their own lives.** My favorite quote by Ram Dass has guided every step of my entrepreneurial journey: **“We are all just walking each other home.”** Those words capture exactly how I feel about the work I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In complete transparency, my biggest hurdle has been myself. I’ve had to learn how to get out of my own head and push past the imposter syndrome that likes to whisper in the background. I’ve also had to explain—many, many times—that my work isn’t just labeling containers or making closets pretty. I earned a Master’s in Human Behavior because I want to understand and support my clients on a deeper level as they make choices that feel right for them as well as validate them when they are struggling to do so.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The work I do greatly varies from day to day and client to client. I’ve done everything from big projects like organizing a cross country move (coordinating both ends of the move) to decluttering a junk drawer and everything in between. Mostly it is showing up, conversing with the client to help them ascertain what project(s) we can knock off that will help them feel better, and then getting to work to accomplish it! No tasks are off the table – I’ve put together furniture, helped get bills paid, make phone calls to get repairs and appointments set up, etc.
If you’re interested in finding out how I can support you feel free to reach out for a complimentary phone consultation – I’d love to chat with you!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
The list is long, and my gratitude runs deep. My parents and family have been my biggest cheerleaders, especially in the times I wasn’t sure I could keep going. My friends have stood beside me since the beginning of Tidy Tammy, hearing my worries and helping me rise above them. And the many women entrepreneurs and mentors I’ve been lucky to learn from have modeled courage, resilience, and steady leadership. Each person has shaped my journey in a meaningful way. I’m also grateful for those who have challenged me; without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
